Pick The Yusho Winners, Nagoya 2012

Recommended Posts

A smaller field of contestants this basho, looks like summer vacations have a higher priority than sumo. Initial lineups will have some changes after picks who start the basho kyujo are replaced by the drone's picks. In the case where the drone's picks are also kyujo (such as Oazuma and rumored to be Osunaarashi), then the next "best" rikishi will act as replacement (best record last basho, then highest rank).

(There seems to be a technical glitch with my ftp software, which I will try to fix after Day 2 results, so scroll down the standings page to see Nagoya entries).

Standings are up after Day 2:

Jonidan and Sandanme picks are zero for most players. Osunaarashi's kyujo gives a replacement pick o Sakaefuji to those who picked him. Jonokuchi picks were all winners for their first match.

As I saw Osunaarashi is entering the basho at Day 5. Do we go with the replacement or do we go with Osuna???

The wording of the rules may be slightly vague, but the intention and practice is that any rikishi who starts the basho kyujo (including those that have a fusen loss as their first match) are automatically replaced. This is intended to be an advantage for players although in some cases the replacement pick may do worse than the kyujo rikishi if they enter the basho later.

Vikanohara joins Leonishiki in the lead.

If only I hadn't picked an intai guy of Sandanme division.

Who did you pick?

Chiyozakura, as I didn't see him listed among the absent rikishi.

I did the very same : but you're still luckier than I am, because on the results after Day 4, Wakamisho gives you 1 point, whereas Wakamisho gives me 0 point !

:-D

OOPS!

My apologies. Yes, Mysko is a leader also. Manual updates have errors sometimes. I will fix after Day 6 results.

But still anything to play for with that silly 2nd loss of Fukuzato and that Jonokuchi playoff.

While in Makuuchi Chiyotairyu finally grabbed his 7th, and Homasho didn't clinch it yet.

Final standings are up.

This was a low-scoring basho, with the winner only correctly guessing one actual yusho winner. In fact, every player picked at least one make koshi rikishi.

Congratulations to Hironoumi for winning the yusho!! (Yusho winner...)

This was helped by his correct Juryo yusho pick and gave him the championship, even with having his Osunaarashi pick replaced for starting kyujo by the lacklustre Sakaefuji.

Congrats also to Torafujii for his doten junyusho! He was the only player to have two correct yusho winner picks but lost the first tiebreaker (most wins by his picks).
