Oguruma Oyakata injured

Recommended Posts

Head of the Haru jungyo Oguruma Oyakata was injured today in Obama and will be kyujo for the rest of the jungyo. He slipped and fell and was taken to a hospital, where he was diagnosed with cervical spinal cord injury. He is conscious, but to be on the safe side, he is staying in Obama for the time being. Deputy Haru Jungyo boss Ooyama Oyakata will be taking over the Head of Jungyo duties

I read last night that Oguruma-oyakata will spend a couple of days under observation in the hospital in Obama, and then see if he's well enough to be moved. When it first happened he had numbness in his feet/legs, but that must have been temporary as later that day he was moving them again. If I'm reading the article properly, he did not lose consciousness at any time and has had no trouble having a conversation as normal.

The doctors at the hospital recommended surgery, but Oguruma's people decided to wait a few days, return to Tokyo, and go to a major hospital for "further precise tests" before making any decisions. "An injury is an injury so he will miss the rest of the jungyo," said Tamanoi Oyakata.

Oguruma Oyakata was moved on Friday from the local hospital in Obama at 7:20 AM via private ambulance to a Metropolitan hospital for further check-ups ."I have been told that he is gradually getting better. Still, he is where he is so he won't be doing anything unreasonable," said his deputy, Ooyama Oyakata. "I am in touch with him through the okamisan and have been told not to worry so I'll be doing my best for the remainder of the jungyo," said Takekaze.
