They really do love Shotenro...

Luckily, our secret banzuke source has Chiyotairyuu at M16 west, which convinced me it isn't the correct banzuke yet - avoiding egg..

I wouldn't be in shock if Kokonoe himself intervened and asked them to put his short haired and allegedly slacking rising star at J1 for humbling reasons..

Meh, really slow going at Jiji/Mainichi/Izutsu this time around...it's rare we still don't have any source for the full makuuchi after an hour.

We'll just have to fill it in one spot at a time. Kitataiki's down to M13e, I think.

You're thinking of Wakanoho, I think?

It's just been announced that Aran has, in fact, received a change of shikona. Explaining the change, Mihogaseki-oyakata said: "It's simply a tribute to one of the greatest home-run hitters of all time. There's nothing more to it, honestly. From now on, he will be known as Henkaran."

Wakakoyu quite a bit ahead of Goeido but Miyabiyama behind Okinoumi...oookay.

Now some actual shikona changes (well, maybe, I'm just mangling these with Google). Corrections welcome inevitable.

Edit: Previous shikona in (brackets).

Sandanme:

Asanotosa - just a different 'no' kanji

Kitakatsumori? (Fukai)

Kamiyama (Sasagawa)

Jonidan:

Taishodo? (Kihakuriki)

Kotohayabusa (Kotokawamura)

Kototora (Kotoomura)

Goharyu? (Arikawa)

Wakataiju (Hirasawa)

Kototaiko (Kotoharada)

Jonokuchi:

Tsurufuji (Ishida)

Daishoei? (Takanishi)

===

Google translates the Goharyu one as Hong Kong Dragon Blade, which is either the most awesome shikona in history or the new Jackie Chan movie. Either way, I'm happy.

Kitakatsumori? (Fukai)

Hakkaku-beya rikishi, so should be Hokutomori or something.

Taishodo? (Kihakuriki)

Less sure than the previous one, but probably O* as an Otake rikishi. Maybe Okachido?

Schoolboy error! Didn't even think to check the heya. That sounds much better than my version. Where did I leave my dunce cap smiley...

At least with this one I knew the heya as he's one of 'my' guys, but the same middle kanji as Kitakatsumori (as I then thought it was) threw me a bit. And I probably went with Tai- as it used to be Taiho-beya. (Sigh...)

IMHO, this banzuke has, for the first time in a long time, everyone pretty much where they should be. Aran is too high, as is Gaga. I don't think he deserves to be at the K spot yet, but we'll see if he can survive being part of the "meatgrinder" process.

National Geographic narrator's deep voice: "As dawn breaks, the young sumo apprentices arrive at the Osaka Prefectural Gym to collect the new banzuke, the sumo ranking sheet for the upcoming Spring tournament, known as the Haru Basho.. Each heya, or stable, sends its delegate to collect these banzukes, which will later on be distributed to whoever the heya sees fit".

A rikishi (young, gifted and fat): "この重さでいよいよ始まるなと実感する。できなかった去年の分も頑張りたい"

Subtitle- "It's heavy.. Now I get that feeling it's starting soon. I'd like to gambarize for last year's non-basho as well!!"

Rikishi full of sheets:

I wish Chiyotairyu the best. Cocky as he may be going in (well you all know) its another world up top.

His Oyakata, if I recall, has experience with the arrogant type? I hope Amuuru is up to the task as well

and stays focused.
