Banzuke topics:

Congratulations to new Ozeki Shiyonofuji.

With 30 wins over the last 3 basho, the last basho a yusho from Sekiwake 1 East, Shiyonofuji floated near the top in the banzuke calculations so it was easier to promote him than to keep him at S1E again.

Oshirokita narrowly avoided kadoban status and ends up at the lowest Ozeki rank. Since it is rare for any player to get fewer than 8 wins in this game, a 9 win performance, scoring 2nd last overall, seemed potentially kadoban worthy but I can't remember the last time anyone in this game was kadoban without actually missing the basho. Oshirokita gets credit for not being kyujo and avoids kadoban. A second consecutive result well below the median will lead to kadoban status next time though.

Flohru's result was below Yokozuna standards but I've been allowing 2 sub-standard results before assigning kadoban status to Yokozuna and Flohru did slightly better than Oshirokita so we'll give him a pass as well.

Hidariashiyama will drop off the banzuke unless he enters in March.

KitaViki appears with her new shikona.

Hello Lowest Division Fans!

I await your entries for the Sandanme Game which is ready to go. All of you who played last basho will have received my banzuke spreadsheet with the historical records to assist with selection making.

Regarding the Jo-Game, I was hoping to run it in March but I'm struggling to get ready for March so I'm postponing the relaunch again. In January, we moved to a temporary residence and we are just now in the process of moving out of that place and into a more long term one. The Jo-Game will have to wait. If anyone else wants to take it on - be my guest! I'll continue to prepare the Jo-Game groups since I use them to make my PTYW selections.

Here, I will repeat last basho's invitation:

For the Sandanme Game, please send me your list of 15 rikishi from the usual segments of the banzuke.

Sd 1-5/6-10/11-15/16-20/21-25/26-30/31-35/36-40/41-45/46-50

51-60/61-70/71-80/81-90 and 91-100

Your rikishi earn points for each win, for a kachikoshi record, for leading their group, and a bonus for the best scoring rikishi on each team based on how close they were to the yusho winning record. The result is adjusted so that the best possible score gets a 15-0 result.

The drone Mirai knows the future and always selects the best rikishi in each group. This shows us what the best possible score would be at each stage of the game.

The drone Genzai picks the most popular rikishi from each group. This drone has tended to score well.

The drone Mukashi picks the rikishi in each group who had the best record last basho. This drone isn't expected to score well but sometimes surprises us.

Send your entries to me at nmatsuo@shaw.ca before any of your selections enter the dohyo for their match (and preferably a few hours before that).

If you would like my historical banzuke spreadsheet, email me to ask for it.

Good luck!

P.S. I had feared that my email address would change but it hasn't.

Sorry for the multiple posts but the new format sumoforum doesn't seem to want to display my tables properly if I put them all in one post as I used to.

If anyone has a helpful suggestion for allowing me to post all the tables in one post, I'd appreciate it.

It's very early and 4 of us are tied at 12-3.

Good luck everyone and thanks for playing!

500-cell limit per post, so not possible any longer. You should be able to fit in 5 players per post, if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks for the info.

It's unfortunate that I can't fit everything in a single post anymore. It's nice to know that the limit exists so I won't spend more time trying to find a way to do it.

On the other hand, the low participation levels mean I don't need very many posts of 5 players to display everyone's results ...

Day 5 results are posted.

Oshirokita extended his lead.

Itachi, KitaViki, and Flohru are also outperforming the crowd as represented by Genzai so far.

None of us are struggling as badly as Mukashi so far.

Good luck on Day 6.

Oshirokita leads today.

Itachi and KitaViki are the only other players with twice as many wins as losses.

Genzai fell in the standings a bit. Neko and Kuroimori passed it in the standings.

Good luck on Nakabi!

Day 8 results are posted. The full standings, factoring in the kk, group leader, and best scoring rikishi points are now shown.

Oshirokita has increased his lead.

Following are Neko, Itachi, KitaViki, and Kuroimori who all have at least twice as many wins as losses.

Randomitsuki is the only other player ahead of Genzai in the standings and that is on the strength of his kk total as he is behind in raw wins and losses.

Good luck on Day 9!

I don't think all Day 10 results were already in - I just looked at Oshirokita and myself and we should be 51:24 and 50:25 respectively.

Neko

Neko

Thanks, it seems I grabbed them too early. I've fixed it now.

Oshirokita leads, followed by Neko, Itachi, and Randomitsuki in that order.

Day 12 results are posted and there has been a lead change!

Randomitsuki has passed Oshirokita for the lead. Mostly because the Surfmaster has a 6 win rikishi (Kihonoumi) and the PTYW rijicho doesn't - yet.

Following the West Yokozuna are Oshirokita, Itachi, Neko (who also has a 6 win rikishi - Aonosho), Flohru, and Kuroimori.

Kadoban Watch: I have 5 guys who are 3-3, right now:

Masunosho,

Gorikiyama, Orora,

Koriyama, and

Terunosato.

Only Neko has more on the cusp -- 7, in fact:

Kotomyozan,

Kainoryu,

Teraosho,

Ryutei,

Sasayama,

Byakko and

Nakanokuni.

But Neko's not at risk of serious make-koshi, and he's not me! So, I confess I'm less concerned about his results :-S

For Shiyonofuji, Gorikiyama and Koriyama lost and Terunosato won. For Neko, Nakanokuni, Sasayama, and Kainoryu won and Byakko and Ryutei lost.

Thanks for contributing to the thread - it feels a little lonely here sometimes!

Day 13 results are posted. Randomitsuki continues to lead. Following are Oshirokita, Neko, Itachi, Flohru, and Kuroimori in that order.

Good luck on Day 14 - the penultimate day - 999shuraku?
