Doitsuyama 1,173 Posted January 16, 2012 The Kokonoe-beya duo of Chiyootori and Chiyoo hit a Kitanoumi-built wall as Hakiai and Sakumayama showed good sumo to make for interesting pairings as the other two makushita yusho leaders Kumagai and Akinokawa (both young talents but not at upper makushita level yet I think) are much further down the banzuke. And there may be two rikishi at 7-0 inside the top 15 ranks, guaranteeing two such promotions. Sakumayama meanwhile tied Itai's consecutive win record from the start with his 26th hon-basho win. Lead makushita Satoyama kept his juryo promotion alive with a not so sensational tsutaezori over Ryuden who is sorely missing sekitori level dohyo awareness. Arawashi improved to 3-2 to stay on juryo course but Tochihiryu fell to make-koshi. Some talents achieved kachi-koshi today with Tatsu and makushita debutant Hokaho. The six rikishi strong sandanme leader group may look like a diverse bunch with no two at the same age (ranging from 19 to 28), same heya or same shusshin (all Japanese though). But there is something in common as five of the six are at a current career high rank, even 28 years old Isshinryu. The exception is Akatsuki and he is not far away. Ikeru won the jonokuchi yusho last basho in a playoff over his senior heyamate Oruri but this basho he is already down to 3-2 with a loss today while Oruri still is without a loss at 5-0. In jonokuchi shin-deshi Goshi had to take the second experienced sandanme rikishi this basho and the 18 years old brother of 20 years old Onami (who is 3-1 in mid sandanme so far) managed an oshidashi win over 37 years old Isenohana to take the sole yusho lead in the smallest division. Yubinhaad 11,570 Posted January 17, 2012 It's fairly safe to assume that any hansoku will be a mage-nage, really, unless it's a Taikomaru vs. Dewanosato bout.
