Pick The Yusho Winners, Hatsu 2012

20 posts in this topic

Pick The Yusho Winners is ready to go for 2012.

Deadline for entries is 12noon Japan time on Day 1.

The new banzuke is finally up as well.

http://members.shaw.ca/oshirokita/Banzuke.htm

I gave a lot of consideration to the possible promotion of Flohru to Yokozuna based on his last 2 basho (15-0 tie for yusho runner up [81 points], 14-1 junyusho [79 points]), but although the results were very high scoring did not meet the criteria of 2 consecutive yusho. I have in the past denied other ozeki with a yusho and junyusho. That being said, because of his excellent results over the previous 2 basho, if Flohru wins the yusho this basho, then he will be promoted to Yokozuna. I have added the general guidelines for promotion to Ozeki & Yokozuna to the rules page of the website.

Results are up after Day 2. I had a little trouble with my browser and/or ftp program, so you may need to scroll down to see the results. Will try to fix it for Day 4.

Wow, you have the highest possible score for Day 2!

Yes, I saw that too. Been a while since I've done that well. Shame that we have to play out the last 13 days...

I should have gone with Oruri instead of Ikeru after all.

Which I was thinking of, given the more body he has.

I suggest going with Nioyama then... he has the most body in jonidan...

Ok, but Oruri sure had already proven to have the skills at Jonidan level as well. While as for Ikeru, it is new.

I just picked the new guy, since he hadn't lost a single bout so far, and had beaten Oruri in the kettei-sen.

Results are up after Day 10.

Takanorappa is the new leader thanks in part to his surprisingly good Juryo pick of Amuru.

Amuru was indeed a good pick!! I am glad he is doing so well, even though I picked Ikioi... but Amuru is still injured with his left knee. He has ice on it and taped up while he is doing anything except keiko. He can't even bend it fully so I worried about him... but I'm so happy for him!! I should have picked him anyway but spending a day with him a few days before the basho even he worried about his knee so... I did too!

I do believe I was the only one to pick Baruto!!! (Sign of approval...) I keep picking him every time because I knew it would happen sooner or later. Before this basho he told me he wanted the yusho and he was going to get it! I told him it was a good thing since I picked him in this game...

This reminds me of when I was the only one to pick Kaisei and he got the yusho!

Final results are up. (you may have to scroll down to see them)

After a number of lead changes in this basho, the winner is Torafujii! :-P

Congratulations also to Mysko, who had the same final score and only lost due to the later entry tiebreaker.

The link is to the Day 12 Standings, not to the Final Standings. I can't see the update.

If you take the mouse and pull the site a few up and down, you too can find the final standings. :-P

Thank you!! Thank you.

I am proud to honor my rank of ozeki with this yusho! The competition was fierce and I'm amazed I came out on top!

I will now tell myself that my previous yusho was not a fluke.

I, too, congratulate Mysko for a strong performance. You should join me at Ozeki!
