For Hatsu, everything below M6 is a minefield.

Definitely Takanoyama is suitable for makuuchi. The life is very difficult for him there, but he brings unusual spirited fighting style, so (in a different sense than you have intended, probably) he is valuable addition to the makuuchi having understandably the widest coverage.

And of course, ten Kaihos are suitable for makuuchi. (Neener, neener...)

So who should become makushita? 5 new juryo and 1 intai means 4 demotions to makushita.

Chiyozakura, Sadanoumi, Chiyoarashi, Satoyama?

Yes. It's not like there's really any room for controversy...

Yes. It's not like there's really any room for controversy...

Shironoryu (4:11) is probably too high rank (J8e) to be demoted to spare any of these 4. Though nonpromotion of Chiyootori looks questionable.

So, who should be the makuuchi demotees?

Candidates, again:

Kimurayama (4:11, M17w)

Tsurugidake (4:11, M16w)

Takarafuji (M14w, 5:10)

Kaisei (M14e, 6:9)

Asasekiryu (M13w, 6:9)

Tamawashi (M13e, 5:10)

Sagatsukasa (M12w, 6:9)

Kokkai (M10e, 1:14)

Wakanosato (M9e, 2:4:9)

Shotenro (M8e, 0:0:15)

What should their order be, in the next banzuke?

Komusubi: Miyabiyama - Takekaze

M1: Wakakoyu - Kitataiki

M2: Okinoumi - Goeido

M3: Aminishiki - Takayasu

M4: Myogiryu - Homasho

I hope for the Takanoyama promotion but reading the Juryo scores I'm not so sure. Asasekiryu maybe M17. Kokkai demoted.

There shall be no such thing as M17 because of the extra ozeki. Makuuchi shall end at M16w.

Thanks for pointing that out - I very nearly put Kimurayama at M17e in my GTB entry. Just because. (Whistling...)
