Vikanohara 171 Posted November 24, 2011 Day 12 What a frustrating day this was. In Sumo Game I should have won 7-6, but for some reason my pick of Sagatsukasa has changed into Daido. I already checked how this could happen, and the reason is that both are just underneath each other. No way I was going to pick Daido against Aminishiki, but this error has cost me the match of course. (Holiday feeling...) And in Odd Sumo I became just a bit too greedy : Aoiyama (1.73) Toyohibiki (1.80) Toyonoshima (1.43) Kakuryu (1.48) Harumafuji (1.57) Kotoshogiku (3.81) I only added Kotoshogiku after quite some thinking. I also had Sadanofuji (1.56) or Aminishiki (1.56) in mind. But then suddenly I got this strange feeling that Hakuho was already close to Yusho anyway and thus Giku would have had a higher chance of winning. Silly me. :-S But the first thing annoyes me so much more. How couldn't I have seen that Daido's name came up instead of Sagatsukasa's ??? :-(
yorikiried by fate 2,038 Posted November 24, 2011 Well, it's a game of skill at many levels, it seems (making good picks, using dropboxes properly, living in a favourable timezone etc.).
Doitsuyama 1,259 Posted November 24, 2011 Well, it's a game of skill at many levels, it seems (making good picks, using dropboxes properly, living in a favourable timezone etc.). You are living in a favorable timezone if you are living in Germany. The only necessary skill is being able to check the news and correct picks prior to 7 a.m. (or 8 a.m. from May to September). Vikanohara 171 Posted November 25, 2011 Hehe. Well, at least I think I'm on a record I deserve so far this basho. But I want that promotion so badly, so such silly mistakes are things I can miss. I kind of henka'd myself. ;-) I wonder whether more players have had this in the past ? Probably even some in which it turned out for the better for them. If only the one just above Sagatsukasa had been a winner as well...
Ruziklao 34 Posted November 25, 2011 Just for the record. Historic sight: after day 13 I am at the first place in the Fantasy Sumo standings with 82 points. But... Mike is the first one with Hakuho in A group, with guaranteed 8 points for yusho, adding to his 75, so that he is the virtual leader. Otherwise my basho is full of ups and downs. Bye-bye to my sanyaku rank in UDH with 12 points under KK line. In ISP, I am struggling to get KK, maybe. Odd Sumo MK is almost sure with my approach, never mind. Maegashira Game seems like above 2/3 points of winner, so it should be ok. Rotosumo is interesting. In the first days I was holding red lantern or something like that, now I am above 100 points per day and closing in to the Makushita leaders. I do not think I can catch them, but KK should be possible. And S4... I was even sole leader for one day, now thanks to the server outage I just missed entering day 13 picks and ... I would lose anyway ;-) but I am still one off pace with decent tiebreakers, so we will see.
Sashohitowa 6 Posted November 25, 2011 Very disapointing basho in Toto for me. A lot of losses, and a lot of them with one point below the line. Also today -- I thought 21 points will be enough, but again a black cicrcle ;-)
Doitsuyama 1,259 Posted November 25, 2011 Also just for the record, I had only my second 10 points in Sumo Game this year, but it was pretty much wasted as my aite droned to give me the easy 10-6 win. Since it was ozeki Sokkenaiyama and ozeki aren't typically droning, I was somewhat worried about him since it's the third consecutive droning day for him. On the other hand, he is a Talkie and you know how unpredictable these guys are. ;-) In the other games Wakanosato is crippling me slowly but surely in Fantasy Sumo, Rotosumo, Hoshitori and Bench Sumo. Actually, in Bench Sumo my squad is soldiering on bravely with two kyujo rikishi and I may still be in the yusho race, not sure here.

I assume this will happen within the next few hours and depending on the quality of picks the line might come up or down a bit. I'm also waiting and getting nervous... Finished 22-10 today but this is also not yet in and most likely the risk facvtor will decide whether I'm 7-6 or 6-7.... Picks like Kotoyuki, Aminishiki and Harumafuji may have saved my ass. The line can only go up since there is no default possibility in sekitoto and I sincerely doubt someone with a valid entry mails a different entry.
Vikanohara 171 Posted November 25, 2011 Not my best days in daily sumo gaming : yesterday a loss in Sumo Game due to a clicking error today a loss in Seki Quad due to a server being down 1 points less in both games than what could have been, and I was also doing good in both. While now it may result in only an average end score. I'm now less motivated for the final two days this basho.

Sorry, I do not get your point. If Asashosakari e.g. has received only 2 entries from players who have made bad picks (16-16 or so) the KK-/MK-line will go down and the player who is currently the first below the line will be happy to find himself in last position above it. And of course it will work vice versa in case the entires contain a lot of correct picks. At least the 4 or 5 people above ther line should not feel safe as of now while there is also some hope for the 4 or 5 directly below the line. Ganzohnesushi 547 Posted November 25, 2011 ...today a loss in Seki Quad due to a server being down.... I don't understand why after all those years you are playing now with all the messy days we had you still have not realized that in such a case you can send your picks to Golynohana by PM or by mail. And don't argue that you didn't know which Rikishi you had already picked. As already highly recommended in the past in this forum just save the daily confirmation mail and then you know which alternatives you still have. So if you failed it is simply your fault. Don't put the blame on the server... Ganzohnesushi

I forgot the change from previous procedure which included all players in the scorecard even if absent - at least for a day or a few before they were omitted. Now only active players are in the daily scores and the median calculation. I admit it's this way since a long time already but it just shows how old I am. (Neener, neener...) I assumed you were busy but you're playing other dailies. What gives? Fancied a break from your unluckiest game?
Asashosakari 20,265 Posted November 25, 2011 Sorry about S4 - I held out hope too long that the server would come back reasonably quickly. If I hadn't, I would have posted up the list of players' previous picks on Google Docs like last basho, but at some point lack of sleep intervened and I couldn't get to it anymore. I do strongly suggest either saving your confirmation mails or marking off your picks on a list each day so you know who's left even without access to the game database... Toto will be made up-to-date in the next few hours; I received some 20 entries by mail.
Ganzohnesushi 547 Posted November 25, 2011 Ganzo, I'm a bit confused about your Sumo Game kyujo. I assumed you were busy but you're playing other dailies. What gives? Fancied a break from your unluckiest game? That was just bad luck. Internet access in our house was not working the week before the Basho and in worst case I would have played on a total 7 days with a drone line-up. Way too risky on that level so I had applied for a kosho in all dailies. Then suddenly on Saturday before the Basho we received a new router and Internet worked again. Thus I could join all other daily games but it was definitely too late for BS and SG. Would have scored a nice 10 today in SG and point-wise would have been at 93 after today. That is #2 in Juryo, but with my usual Torikumi luck I'm sure this would have been 5-8 or 6-7 only.... (Neener, neener...) In Hatsu'12 I will be firing with all weapons... Asashosakari 20,265 Posted November 25, 2011 Heh, looks like I accidentally droned in Bench again. Meant to PM my lineup to Jakusotsu (I don't see complete email addresses on the ML web interface and I wasn't sure Fujisan would accept PM entries here), but I guess I only clicked on Preview, not Send... No matter, would have been a 12-14 loss instead of the 10-14 I have now.
Umigame 82 Posted November 25, 2011 Toto will be made up-to-date in the next few hours; I received some 20 entries by mail. Done. Let me know if you spot any issues. Thanks! That kept my chance for kachikoshi alive (Neener, neener...)
Asashosakari 20,265 Posted November 25, 2011 Thanks! That kept my chance for kachikoshi alive (Neener, neener...) Please remind your better half to pick both divisions next time, not just makuuchi. (Showing respect...)
Fujisan 535 Posted November 25, 2011 (I don't see complete email addresses on the ML web interface and I wasn't sure Fujisan would accept PM entries here), Yes I would... Asashosakari 20,265 Posted November 25, 2011 (edited) Guess it's been an unpredictable basho the second week...in Toto the makuuchi players have dropped from an overall average of 58.4% after Day 7 to just 52.8% now, while the makushita players have gone up from 40.6% to 46.8%. For the last six days alone it's 46.2% in makuuchi and 55.0% for makushita. (Juryo has been near 50% all basho long.) Right now there is actually a majority of MK's in the top division despite being overall above-average, mostly due to no less than 13 of the 39 players standing at 6-7. Looks like there won't be an adjustment of the W-L records this time, although it looks like it'll get quite crowded in the upper maegashira ranks.
