Doitsuyama 1,173 Posted September 22, 2011 On the last three days Kisenosato got three opponents with bad head-to-head records and promptly fell into a three bout losing streak. He broke that streak today against yokozuna Hakuho, another opponent with a bad personal record, but now he is 3-2 against the yokozuna since breaking his 63 bout win streak. It was a well-fought bout as Hakuho quickly got the right hand inside, but Kisenosato right away grabbed that arm and circled around for the inevitable left-handed kotenage since Hakuho wasn't willing to change plans. Sekiwake Kotoshogiku now is back in the yusho race as he had no problems turning the bout against Gagamaru into a mawashi battle right from the start which isn't Gagamaru's strength. A win against the yokozuna tomorrow would make a real yusho race, along with a very compelling case for ozeki promotion, but a loss... that's some big stakes for the sekiwake tomorrow. Maybe Ozeki Harumafuji can tell him something to avoid as he seems like a changed rikishi since the yokozuna talk dwindled and managed the kachi-koshi with his fifth consecutive win, an oshidashi over Tochiozan - just in time before starting the round robin between the top four rikishi. If Baruto and Hakuho are getting a few wins over Hakuho and Kotoshogiku, there might still be an opening for Gagamaru and Kitataiki in the yusho race as both are 10-2. Even Kisenosato and Kyokutenho at 9-3 are mathematically still in it. Tamaasuka and Tosayutaka lost their seventh and sixth straight bout and demotion to juryo seems sealed now, while Hochiyama beat Yoshiazuma to keep his head over the water for another day. Kimurayama and Takanoyama also are in serious demotion danger with their losses today. With so many possible demotions from makuuchi a makuuchi debut for Matsutani seems safe now as Matsutani mmoved to 10-5, staying in the shared juryo lead with Myogiryu, as the two talents distanced themselves from the pack, getting a two win margin over five pursuers. Aoiyama, Kyokushuho and Chiyoarashi are among these, getting the kachi-koshi today. He could lose one more and still get the 33 wins which would make him a candidate for promotion. A win would be really good for his Ozeki-run though. Nice win over Hakuho by Kisenosato. Naganoyama 5,879 Posted September 22, 2011 One of the things that I really like about Kisenosato is how he reacts to beating Hakuho. Does he smile - no! Does he pump his fist - no! Does he skip back to his mark - no! Does he show relief or any kind of letup in intensity - no! So what does he do - he smoulders. Smoulders as he takes the kesho, smoulders as zabuton fly north and south, smoulders all the way down the hanamichi and I assume smoulders his way back into the shitakubeya, where I now assume that the smiling begins... He could lose one more and still get the 33 wins which would make him a candidate for promotion. A win would be really good for his Ozeki-run though. He still has to face Baruto (they are 10-10 in head-to-heads, with Giku winning the last 3) and Harumafuji (which is 9-6 in Giku's favour, but Harry won the last two) over the last two days. So, he could lose to Hak tomorrow, but still have a good chance of collecting a couple more wins.... Edit: And he defeated Hak last basho.....
