Kotoshogiku managed to beat Tokitenku convincingly with a kimedashi, not that easy considering that he was 1-15 against the tall Mongolian in the last 16 bouts. Kisenosato had a similarly poor record against a tall foreigner with ozeki Baruto and he also looked good at the start, pressing Baruto to the edge, but then fell to an uwatenage, leaving yokozuna Hakuho as the sole leader who had no problems with a quick win over Tochinoshin. Gagamaru achieved the early kachi-koshi, beating the light Takanoyama with oshidashi; Goeido, Kyokutenho and Kitataiki are closely behind at 7-2.

Fujiazuma has eight consecutive losses now for an early make-koshi, but thanks to his 10-5 makuuchi debut last basho he isn't in immediate demotion danger yet. It's more urgent for Hochiyama, Takanoyama, Tamaasuka and Tosayutaka who all lost today.

Myogiryu looked like sure makuuchi material when I saw his three consecutive wins in the makushita playoff one year ago and it's not much different in juryo now as he is easily blasting his opponents out of the dohyo. In this form it will be very difficult to deny him a second consecutive juryo yusho as Matsutani and Hokutokuni were the only pursuers able to stay one win behind. His promotion to makuuchi isn't far away anyway, with Takarafuji, Sadanofuji and Matsutani being the next best candidates.
