The three makuuchi leaders all won today with Kisenosato looking strong again, disposing easily of fellow sekiwake Kakuryu. Ozeki Baruto managed a close win against Takekaze, but Harumafuji fell to 3-4 with another hiramaku loss, and Kotooshu fell off the map entirely, going kyujo with an injured ego (or was it the elbow?). Tochiozan and Gagamaru are the only rikishi at 6-1, both having strong bouts this basho. Czech Takanoyama won the clash between the two supposedly overmatched shin-makuuchi rikishi against Yoshiazuma, giving him the second win. Kimurayama now is the rikishi in biggest demotion danger as he lost the fifth consecutive bout, while Hochiyama recovered from a 0-2 start and is 4-3 now, beating Tamaasuka today.

Myogiryu and Hokutokuni seem to dominate the juryo division as they continue to lead, now at 6-1. Hokutokuni disposed of another co-leader, Kyokushuho, for his win today. Four more rikishi are at 5-2 with lead juryo Takarafuji, Matsutani, Chiyonokuni and Nionoumi. Hamanishiki finally got his first win, probably too late to stay in juryo. His opponent Kotoyuki and Hitenryu are also in big demotion danger.
