Doitsuyama 1,173 Posted May 22, 2011 Kakizoe won in juryo, possibly securing an exchange with now double-digit losses Masuraumi despite finishing 3-4 himself. Arawashi also finished 3-4 but his opponent Mochimaru might get the nod to go up at 4-3 despite being ranked a bit low at Ms10e. Chiyonokuni secured his promotion as he beat Towanoyama to finish 5-2. Sotairyu also didn't help the lower ranked rikishi, finishing 6-1 to possibly get a better juryo rank than his old J10 best. Chiyozakura also finished 6-1 and should be close to juryo next basho, along with Kitazono at 5-2 after his win over Buseizan. I think the ten kachi-koshi rikishi from Ms1 to Ms10 will all get promoted. Further candidates are Kakizoe, Arawashi and Nionoumi (all 3-4), Kyokushuho and Towanoyama (4-3), Oniarashi, Chiyoarashi and Kitazono (5-2), depending their preferences of rank over result. Raishu 207 Posted May 22, 2011 Excellent showing by the young talented Chiyo-squad this basho. :-) http://www.sumoreference.com/Banzuke.aspx?...amp;shusshin=-1 Chiyonokuni with a guarenteed Juryo debut next basho and Chiyoarashi with small promotion chances. All of them (-kuni, -arashi, -zakura, -otori, -maru, -shoma, -o, and -sakae) with a new carrer high rank in Nagoya and Chiyozakura and Chiyootori with promotion chances, depending on their upcoming results. The Sandanme group might reach Makushita within the next 2-4 basho. At least, that's my pesonal impression after having watched two of each Rikishi's bouts (I know, not that much of a samplesize). It looks like Kokonoe might become the new Sekitori powerhouse
Asashosakari 18,959 Posted May 22, 2011 I think the ten kachi-koshi rikishi from Ms1 to Ms10 will all get promoted. And the eleventh, too! :-) I wonder how high Hokutokuni will go. At Sd25 he's right at the typical cutoff from which he's guaranteed a promotion into the makushita top 15 ranks anyway, but with all the free spots he might go directly to a single-digit rank. And with four more sekitori spots to be added and probably quite a few demotions after Nagoya...hmm, just a 5-2 away from returning to juryo, perhaps? (Of course, he hasn't looked quite that overpowering against sandanme rikishi to me, he could well finish MK next time.)
Asashosakari 18,959 Posted July 27, 2011 Did anyone ever find out why he was injured and fell off the banzuke? I researched all of the absent/withdrawl/return threads and someone asked the question but I did not see a reply. (Holiday feeling...) When in doubt, search for posts by madorosumaru. (Yusho winner...) And thanks for unearthing a thread in which I actually predicted something correctly. (Showing respect...)
shumitto 418 Posted July 27, 2011 (edited) Did anyone ever find out why he was injured and fell off the banzuke? I researched all of the absent/withdrawl/return threads and someone asked the question but I did not see a reply. (Holiday feeling...) It was a surgery on his right wrist which you can see taped on his Sumo reference profile (the picture of which was taken before the surgery). Edit: madorosumaru's post referred to several surgeries. I stand corrected then. Edited July 27, 2011 by shumitto
