Kotoviki Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Was thinking about someone like Kaisei who gets promoted to Makuuchi on the next banzuke.. which salary will he be paid? stipend... not full salary. 1,036,000 yen. (onemillionthirtysixthousandyen) Thanks, I meant will he get paid the Makuuchi salary from the "new banzuke" or will he still get paid the juryo salary until May? The new juryo guys will get the new salary as it is a huge difference, but wondering about the guys to Makuuchi.. He and I talked about it Sunday and yesterday before the decisions but we haven't talked tonight..

The three juryo promotees already have been announced so that's quite different. Kaisei becoming makuuchi is more of an open secret compared to that.

Gusoyama Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 What will ultimately determine their fate is the number of people willing to play along. As an optimist and believer in human nature, I'd like to believe that people have finally had enough of the sumo scandals, and that Ozumo will finally be forced into the 21st century. You keep playing this record over and over, yet we never hear the punch line. How could Ozumo change to fix the problem? Enlighten us.
Asashosakari Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Everyone gets paid according to their new ranking positions, not just the three juryo returnees.
Kintamayama Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 First 33 rikishi were questioned-all denied yaocho. Everyone will be interviewed by the 12th.

You keep playing this record over and over, yet we never hear the punch line. How could Ozumo change to fix the problem? Enlighten us. (In a state of confusion...) I've said what needs to happen countless times. Ozumo is rotten to the core. You can't fix it any more than you can take a rotten apple and make it a fresh one. The Kyokai must be destroyed, and professional sumo must be rebuilt from scratch. During the last crisis I outlined a proposal turning professional sumo into something similar to professional tennis, but nobody much cared for that suggestion, so I won't bother linking to it. It's out there though. My fundamental thinking hasn't changed since then.
nomadwolf Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 The Kyokai must be destroyed, and professional sumo must be rebuilt from scratch. Nuke'em all from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

The lead article in today's Friday magazine is entitled "No special government treatment! Please dissolve the Nihon Sumo Kyokai!" My "radical" viewpoint is becoming the message that the mainstream media is feeding the public...
Kotoviki Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Everyone gets paid according to their new ranking positions, not just the three juryo returnees. Thank you very much for the clarification!! (In a state of confusion...) Indeed I found this out today while talking to Baruto. I was happy to hear that!!

My "radical" viewpoint is becoming the message that the mainstream media is feeding the public... Did I miss the memo where Friday went from "bunch of scuzzy shit-stirrers" to "mainstream media"?
Kintamayama Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 Contrary to earlier reports, the special committee is not asking the rikishi for their mobile phones and bankbooks. "I brought my mobile phone and my bankbook but they told me they won't be needing them," said Bushuuyama who was one of those questioned today. "We are not the police so we have limited clout.. It's going to be tough to get to the bottom of all this.." said one of the committee members. All those questioned today were subject to about an hour of questioning each except Toyozakura (mentioned specifically in one of the mails) who was interrogated for two hours. He did not speak to the journalists later and left hurriedly in a taxi.
