Guess Kisenosato's Aite

Recommended Posts

I was waiting to see if Hakuho dropped to the same score as Okinoumi, in which case I could've seen something like Okinoumi-Harumafuji for the final day. But then again, Kotoshogiku or really anybody might well be a more credible opponent than an 8-5 ozeki anyway...

So yeah, Kisenosato-Harumafuji for senshuraku, please.

As I predicted before the basho started:

Day 15 - Harumafuji (do I get bonus points for that?? No Gino-sho points today, I wager.)

Did you also boldly predict that Hakuho would face Kaio and that Baruto would meet Kotooshu? :-)

In any case, with all contenders having picked the same - congrats to our two-sansho winner Jejima, as there's no way he can lose the gino-sho now.

Edit: After yusho'ing both times Kise has been at S1e since I started playing, do I hope for him to drop to S1w so we don't effectively play the same game next time, or should I just be selfish and hope for more of what seems to work? Hmm...

Planning to be in Osaka from March 4th first for Kongofuji's danpatsushiki then the basho. I will miss both Tuesdays though driving back each Monday at midnight to work Tuesday morning then driving back after work Tuesday night.. however I may have to totally rearrange the schedule. In any case, anyone going who wants to share the ride with me just let me know!!

I'll take Harumafuji for senshuraku too! 5-9 how pitiful I fell after the yusho!

It seems to be unanimous but I wonder if the torikumi makers might just toss us another curve ball with Homasho or Goeido? Probably not, I'll stick with the crowd and go with:

Day 15: Harumafuji

Day 15 - Harumafuji

Now if we suddenly hear from Kameumi, that will make it completely unanimous.

Asashosakari - if you want to do the official sansho prize post after the torikumi is announced, go right ahead. Otherwise, I'll post in about 24 hours.

Well, currently Kameumi has fallen into the 'Wakanosato trap' - so hopefully he will change - but officially he would be too late...

Special Prize Winners for Hatsu 2011

First comes the shukun-sho or outstanding performance prize for the one who correctly picks the aite the most consecutive days. By Day 9 Jejima was at 3-6 and riding a 5-day losing streak, but he was perfect for the balance with 6 consecutive victories, including a couple of unpopular picks (see the gino-sho prize). That was enough to overtake the 4-match streak by Kofuji at the start of the basho.

The kanto-sho or fighting spirit prize is given to the one who limits their worse streak of incorrect aite picks to the shortest number of consecutive days. With his 11-4 mark, Asashosakari limted his loses to single day streaks, tying the all-time record. His 11-4 mark also ties the all-time record.

Finally there is the gino-sho or technique prize which works with a point system:

3 points if you're the only win to make the correct pick

2 points if you're one of two to make the correct pick

1 point if you're one of three to make the correct pick

This was another case of Kofuji taking the early lead only to be overcome by Jejima, who was the only one to pick Kaio on Day 10 and one of two to select Okinoumi on Day 14, earning 5 points total.

In summary:

Shukun-sho

Many thanks to all gyojis (especially Kofuji, who looked after the scores most days of this basho).

You're welcome! I would have done day 15 too, but thought the rijicho might want that privilege.
