Just thought I'd start off by saying hello to everyone. I've been reading the forum for a few months now, but just decided to become a member.

My wife and I are both big sumo fans, and have been since attending the Sumo Canada basho in '98. Up until last basho, we had been relying on the live stream and the movies on banzuke.com for our fix. Now we're subscribed to TV-Japan and can get the english simulcast. I must say that it's a big help being able to get the commentary and colour comments. Combined with this forum, we're like pigs in slop!

Yup, I'm Canadian, living in Vancouver. I haven't looked at any of the sumo games, but I'm definitely into fantasy sports of other kinds (football, hockey pools). Any recommendations on one that's relatively easy to get started on?

Aaaah, a fantasy player, EXCELLENT, SMITHERS!! :-S Then you will have LOTS to choose from!

They may not be the "easiest" to play, but I am naturally compelled to plug my own three games (In a state of confusion...) You can go to http://www.sekitori.com to find links to all of them.

In Sekitori-Toto you pick every sekitori match each day of the basho. Sounds like a lotta work, but the site is all automated, and it can go pretty quickly. And if you can't decide, you can pick "X" for a sure half point (Blinking...)

Sekitori-Oracle probably takes the longest to enter, but you do that before the basho begins, so you have plenty of time to do so... there you guess the final record of each sekitori in the upcoming basho (eg. Asashoryu 14-1, Takamisakari 8-7, etc.).

Both the above games are pretty handy if you plan on playing several other games, too, because if you are done picking these two, it will be mostly a breeze making your selections for any other game, cause you already determined who your winners are and can use that list as a quick reference guide.

Probably the quickest, but by no means easiest, game is Sekitori-Quadrumvirate, where you pick 4 sekitori each day, and hope at least 3 of them will win to give you a daily win as well. The catch is, you can only use each sekitori ONCE per basho (Clapping wildly...)

The next game to play, of course, is Guess the Banzuke, where you try to ... um,... guess the banzuke for Natsu basho (Clapping wildly...) Link to that on the sumogames.com page as well.

Anyways, have fun... got plenty of time to figure it all out till next basho (Clapping wildly...)

Oh, and please bring your wife to the games as well! Nothing like a nice little spousal rivalry! (Bleh!)

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll try to convince my wife to play as well. Although, she has decided that she won't play scrabble with me anymore, due to, umm, a slight loss of perspective on my part... it's not just a game, dammit, and winning does matter! :-)

Mine neither. Sekihiryu actually first entered this Burns-emoticon a short while ago in another thread, to my greatest pleasure, after I had made a request for one, so if it was a gesture of mocking, he failed miserably :-)
