Mihogaseki driver cautioned

A Mihogaseki rikishi was seen driving a car in a clip on Youtube, I have learned today. As rikishi are not allowed to drive, the Kyokai called upon the Oyakata and issued a stern warning. "I told him to see to it that it doesn't happen again, " said Hanaregoma Rijicho. The clip shows several rikishi from the heya piling into a car and driving and was presumably shot this month in Kyushu. "We will not be bringing this up in our next rijikai (Sunday)." added the Rijicho.

As for your question-I have no idea who it was, but can only guess it was a lowly rikishi, otherwise the feces would have hit the propeller for sure.

The culprit is a 31 year-old Jonidan rikishi, who explained that he took the car to the bath, which is about one kilometer from the heya. "I scolded him soundly!" said the Oyakata. "I was possessed by an evil spirit," added the rikishi.

It has to be Kouryuuyama, of whom I have never heard before till now.

That's because it's Kouryuuyama, not Kouriyama, both from Mihogaseki. Kouriyama is 23.

Because it potentially generates bad publicity for the Association. Then ban on driving was issued after Toki killed a civillian with his car. At least I think so. Just quoting from my memories of what I read somewhere. Others here know the details, there will be an old thread somewhere etc. Just wanted to respond to your inquiry.

The ban goes back even further, to an accident Mitoizumi was involved in back in 1985. With Toki the issue became a lot more public though.
