Day 4 results and day 5 pairings

Recommended Posts

The sanyaku results were similar to day 1 with Harumafuji again butchering a near perfect day from the sekiwake upwards. Even Kotoshogiku won today, as he faced Harumafuji, extending his very favourable head to head score against the ozeki to 21-10. Kakuryu and Homasho still are very impressive, staying undefeated, but Kokkai and Hokutoriki looked vulnerable in their first loss of the basho, the latter getting blasted out of the dohyo by explosive shin-makuuchi Gagamaru.

Masatsukasa is the sole undefeated juryo rikishi now, with a win over Bushuyama in a makuuchi visit. The other two leaders lost, forming a six rikishi strong pursuer group at 3-1, lead juryo Kotokasuga among them. Sokokurai recovered from two losses, beating Tosanoumi with a nice throw. Brazilian Kaisei won the shin-sekitori battle against Sadanoumi.

Hakuho's 36th consecutive victory now makes him the all-Heisei leader in that category. 4th in the modern era, behind Futabayama (69), Chiyonofuji (53) and Taiho (45).
