Asashosakari 18,644 Posted July 9, 2010 From the "stuff that surprises me" pile, via the new Banzuke Topics: Sadanoumi is the first member of the professional debut class of March 2003 to earn promotion to sumo's second highest division. Here's the full class. I guess Shibuya will make it eventually, but everybody else already looks like a long shot. Two sekitori out of a Haru class of 60+ rikishi, that's rather unimpressive. (Looks like it was cannibalized a bit by the preceding Hatsu basho which already has produced three sekitori and may well get a fourth one in Shironoryu.) Jakusotsu 5,720 Posted July 9, 2010 Totally unrelated comment, but that's the most beautiful banzuke picture I've ever seen! (Sign of disapproval...)
Fay 1,677 Posted July 9, 2010 Totally unrelated comment, but that's the most beautiful banzuke picture I've ever seen! (Sign of disapproval...) It's only because of the Kotomitsuki :'-( clock above.
Asashosakari 18,644 Posted July 15, 2010 (edited) Still playing catch-up on my usual assortment of posts... First name changes for Nagoya basho: Fusanohana Takao has changed to Shosuke An added wrinkle: His old Takao 嵩雄 at the Kyokai is different from what the SDB shows (which is identical to his given name, 高雄)...I don't know when that change happened, perhaps it's been like this since 2007.03? Raido Satoshi didn't last long, he's right back to Dairaido Taro 大雷童 太郎 だいらいどう たろう following his 1-6 disaster basho in May. Asakubo Yu is now Asanojo Danpei Teraomaru Nobuhiro has changed to Tsuyoshi Hokazan Kosaku (given name previously not listed at the Kyokai) is now Hokaho Shofu Hikosaka Masataka is now Sotenryu Masamitsu Honda Ryo (gnpnlatK) is now Mitoyutaka Koki Motohashi Ryo (gnpnlatK) is now Kawachi Rikiryu That's an intriguing choice for a given name... And lastly, recent shindeshi Motoi's shusshin has changed from Okinawa-shi to Kagoshima-ken, Oshima-gun, Yoron-cho
