Much better ;-)

The crucial thing now is the question of how to display a KK from a career high...

Not really.

If the solution is obvious and doable (putting a red frame around a purple box), why haven't you done it in this test?

If you have done it, ie. if there already are red frames around some purple boxes, I cannot see them.

If some other trickery is involved in decoding the patterns, I am too stupid.

The trickery required appears to be "not using Firefox"... How odd, it works fine on my rinky-dink IE6 (image), but in FF the coloured cell background appears to bleed onto the frame. Sorry about my seemingly obtuse post, I had no idea this was happening.

Back to the drawing board...

Edit: Ahh, it chokes on having multiple style attributes in the same tag.

As usual the fix itself was easy, automating it within Excel 2003's 1024 character limit was the hard (rather, annoying) part. Revised table to be ported over to the main thread in a moment.

Edit: Err, it would if I had remembered to bring the correct version of the spreadsheet to this computer...

Don't ever use long formulas in Excel. Make your own functions in VBA: Create a new module in VBA, write a function (not a sub) and use it in Excel just like you would use any built in function. Immensely better than stupid cell formulas.

Yeah, I probably should, just usually too lazy to port it over (or to finally learn more than rudimentary VBA, really). My table output code doesn't usually end up particularly large or particularly complicated (it's just a bunch of td's and tr's strung together after all), this one just spiralled out of control.
