Doitsuyama 1,178 Posted May 19, 2010 Hakuho stayed undefeated with a win over Kaio while Baruto lost to another ozeki, this time Harumafuji. Now it's only Aran in second place at 9-2 as Hakuba and Shimotori also lost. Tochiozan missed a win over Kotooshu as a mono-ii decided that he lost by isamiashi, giving the ozeki the kachi-koshi. Kisenosato and Kotoshogiku look good to stay in sanyaku as both are 6-5 with a win today, but Aminishiki already is make-koshi and Tochiozan only one loss away. Tochinoshin is back on track for kachi-koshi and a possible sanyaku debut, beating Aminishiki with yoritaoshi. A few more rikishi also are in contention for sanyaku spots, namely Hakuba, Asasekiryu, Kitataiki, Kakuryu and even Miyabiyama, these five rikishi having 8, 7, 6, 5 and 4 wins, but being in reverse banzuke order. Kimurayama looked like a demotion candidate early on, but he turned his score around with a five win streak, and at 6-5 he already is safe. No such luck for Tamanoshima who sealed his demotion with the eighth loss today, and his makuuchi-jiri counterpart Koryu also is getting close at 4-7, losing to Tochinonada who also needs to win the rest. Kiyoseumi is back in the sole juryo lead as Daido and Matsutani suffered losses. Bushuyama is staying one win behind Kiyoseumi, but Gagamaru fell back to 7-4 with a loss to Hokutoriki in makuuchi, his first loss in three visits to makuuchi. ryafuji 811 Posted May 19, 2010 The look on Tochiozan's face when the shimpan announced gunbai-dori said it all. What an awful blunder that was.
Asashosakari 19,150 Posted May 19, 2010 Kiyoseumi is back in the sole juryo lead as Daido and Matsutani suffered losses. Bushuyama is staying one win behind Kiyoseumi, but Gagamaru fell back to 7-4 with a loss to Hokutoriki in makuuchi, his first loss in three visits to makuuchi. And Kirinowaka's luck finally ran out after several basho of walking the tightrope. After yesterday's loss against Hoshikaze he almost seemed to have an exasperated "what, no winning streak this time?" look on his face. Anyway, guess we're likely to have only three demotions to makushita after all.
Bealzbob 0 Posted May 19, 2010 Anyway, guess we're likely to have only three demotions to makushita after all. Perhaps, but Wakatenro still needs 2 wins from 4 days to avoid joining Kanbayashi, Kirinowaka & Kaiho
Asashosakari 19,150 Posted May 19, 2010 Perhaps, but Wakatenro still needs 2 wins from 4 days to avoid joining Kanbayashi, Kirinowaka & Kaiho Sure, and also Sadanofuji, but I've learned not to bet against rikishi achieving 2-2 requirements. (Whistling...) Wakatenro gets Kirinowaka tomorrow, too, so that's likely a good start.

Asashosakari 19,150 Posted May 19, 2010 I know he's 7-4 and all and about to get promoted, but even in Gagamaru's successful bouts I can't help but think, "there must be a dozen ways in which the makuuchi regulars can and will exploit his weaknesses".
