Title: Sumo

Author: Lyall Watson

Publisher: Sidgwick & Jackson Limited

Pages: 96

ISBN: 0-283-99771-0

First Edition 1988

I just recently picked up the First Edition off of E-bay. I haven't seen the Second Edition, but it looks like the Second Edition was printed in 1989 with updates and revisions and a slightly different title.

Post all your comments about this book on this thread. Thanks!

The second edition is virtually the same as the first. It has a different cover, and the profiles of rikishi at the end of the book are updated to take account of retirements/newcomers, but that's about it as I recall.

This was the first sumo book I ever got and I remember it very fondly. It is a rather brief overview, but I would still recommend it as a good introduction for those new to sumo. Some excellent photos too.

So far it is a pretty good book and a nice, simple overview. I love Ozeki Konishiki in his pink "Sailors" outfit on page 75! I saw a lot of that on the ski slopes when I was living there. A lot of pink, red, green and purple ski outfits.
