Doitsuyama 1,173 Posted March 15, 2004 Today Tochiazuma was the only losing Ozeki, and he already is 0-2 now. Well, there are three more (ex-)Ozeki at 0-2 with Miyabiyama, Dejima and Takanonami. Both Sekiwake lost against opponents better not to lose against if they want to have a word in the yusho race. The Russian rikishi in high Juryo had a very entertaining bout against Oikari. Both rikishi made some turnarounds showing the back to the other riksihi but it lasted a while until Oikari finally could capitalize on this on show Roho the way out of the dohyo. Surprisingly Ichinotani is the best shin-Sekitori and looked sharp in his win against Bushuyama. Otsukasa and Hayateumi are the early Makuuchi promotion candidates. -- Doitsuyama Day 2 Juryo J14e Wakakosho (1-1) yorikiri J13e Daimanazuru (0-2) J14w Ichinotani (2-0) yorikiri J12w Bushuyama (0-2) J13w Masutsuyoshi (2-0) yorikiri J11e Tokitenku (0-2) J10w Sumanofuji (2-0) tsukidashi J12e Ama (1-1) J9e Takanotsuru (2-0) yorikiri J11w Dewanofuji (1-1) J8w Hakuho (1-1) uwatenage J10e Hamanishiki (0-2) J7e Gojoro (2-0) tsukidashi J9w Juzan (0-2) J6w Kasugao (2-0) sukuinage J8e Towanoyama (1-1) J5e Takanowaka (2-0) hatakikomi J7w Tamarikido (0-2) J6e Kitazakura (1-1) oshidashi J5w Nakao (0-2) J2e Tamakasuga (1-1) okuridashi J4w Kaido (0-2) J2w Hayateumi (2-0) sukuinage J4e Wakatoba (1-1) J1e Oikari (1-1) tsukiotoshi J3w Roho (0-2) J1w Otsukasa (2-0) yorikiri J3e Kobo (1-1) Makuuchi M16w Kaiho (1-1) tsukiotoshi M15e Futeno (0-2) M17e Yotsukasa (2-0) yoritaoshi M15w Toyozakura (1-1) M14w Ushiomaru (2-0) hikiotoshi M16e Wakanoyama (0-2) M12w Asasekiryu (2-0) uwatenage M14e Harunoyama (1-1) M13e Kotonowaka (1-1) hatakikomi M11e Asanowaka (0-2) M11w Takekaze (1-1) okuridashi M13w Chiyotenzan (0-2) M10w Kotoryu (2-0) oshidashi M12e Toki (1-1) M10e Kasuganishiki (1-1) sotogake M8w Takanonami (0-2) M9w Kokkai (2-0) oshidashi M7e Tochisakae (1-1) M9e Buyuzan (2-0) oshidashi M7w Kinkaiyama (0-2) M8e Takamisakari (2-0) yorikiri M5e Tokitsuumi (1-1) M4e Aminishiki (1-1) oshidashi M6w Jumonji (0-2) M6e Hokutoriki (1-1) hatakikomi M4w Tosanoumi (0-2) M3w Tamanoshima (2-0) hatakikomi M5w Iwakiyama (1-1) M3e Tochinonada (1-1) yorikiri S1e Wakanosato (1-1) M2w Kyokutenho (2-0) uwatedashinage S1w Kotomitsuki (1-1) O1e Chiyotaikai (2-0) kotenage M2e Dejima (0-2) O2w Musoyama (1-1) oshidashi M1w Kyokushuzan (1-1) K1w Shimotori (1-1) shitatenage O2e Tochiazuma (0-2) O1w Kaio (2-0) yorikiri K1e Kakizoe (0-2) Y1e Asashoryu (2-0) uwatenage M1e Miyabiyama (0-2) Day 3 Makushita Ms6e Ishide (1-0) Ms5w Fujinohana (1-0) Ms4e Tochinohana (0-1) Ms3w Asofuji (0-1) Ms3e Tochifudo (1-0) Ms4w Toyonoshima (1-0) Ms2w Gokenzan (0-1) Ms1w Daishodai (0-1) Ms1e Hagiwara (1-0) Ms2e Kotooshu (1-0) Juryo J13w Masutsuyoshi (2-0) J11w Dewanofuji (1-1) J11e Tokitenku (0-2) J14w Ichinotani (2-0) J14e Wakakosho (1-1) J10w Sumanofuji (2-0) J10e Hamanishiki (0-2) J13e Daimanazuru (0-2) J12e Ama (1-1) J8w Hakuho (1-1) J8e Towanoyama (1-1) J12w Bushuyama (0-2) J5e Takanowaka (2-0) J9w Juzan (0-2) J4e Wakatoba (1-1) J9e Takanotsuru (2-0) J7e Gojoro (2-0) J3w Roho (0-2) J3e Kobo (1-1) J7w Tamarikido (0-2) J6w Kasugao (2-0) J2w Hayateumi (2-0) J2e Tamakasuga (1-1) J6e Kitazakura (1-1) J5w Nakao (0-2) J1w Otsukasa (2-0) J1e Oikari (1-1) J4w Kaido (0-2) Makuuchi M16w Kaiho (1-1) M15w Toyozakura (1-1) M17e Yotsukasa (2-0) M14w Ushiomaru (2-0) M14e Harunoyama (1-1) M16e Wakanoyama (0-2) M15e Futeno (0-2) M12w Asasekiryu (2-0) M13w Chiyotenzan (0-2) M10w Kotoryu (2-0) M10e Kasuganishiki (1-1) M12e Toki (1-1) M9e Buyuzan (2-0) M13e Kotonowaka (1-1) M11w Takekaze (1-1) M8w Takanonami (0-2) M8e Takamisakari (2-0) M11e Asanowaka (0-2) M9w Kokkai (2-0) M5w Iwakiyama (1-1) M5e Tokitsuumi (1-1) M7e Tochisakae (1-1) M7w Kinkaiyama (0-2) M4w Tosanoumi (0-2) M4e Aminishiki (1-1) M6e Hokutoriki (1-1) M3e Tochinonada (1-1) M6w Jumonji (0-2) K1e Kakizoe (0-2) S1w Kotomitsuki (1-1) S1e Wakanosato (1-1) M3w Tamanoshima (2-0) M2e Dejima (0-2) O1w Kaio (2-0) O1e Chiyotaikai (2-0) M2w Kyokutenho (2-0) K1w Shimotori (1-1) O2w Musoyama (1-1) O2e Tochiazuma (0-2) M1e Miyabiyama (0-2) Y1e Asashoryu (2-0) M1w Kyokushuzan (1-1)
Guest Vincentoryu Posted March 15, 2004 (edited) Having seen the Musoyama - Kyokushuzan video I think I have found the reason for Kyokushuzan's shameless sumo. He must have been corrupted by the ring. No other explanation for his Gollem impression at the end of their bout. (Oops! ) (Musoyama seemed to be very cautious as can be seen at the tachi-ai) Edited March 15, 2004 by Vincentoryu
Kaikitsune Makoto 203 Posted March 15, 2004 Kokkai's tachi-ai messed up Sakae. It must be so unfamiliar way Kokkai attacks that even long time pushers have peculiar problems in reading the impact angle and hence lose in awkward ways. Never seen Tochisakae losing all control in centre of gravity so easily as he did at the tachi-ai against Kokkai. Iwakiyama popped out from a textbook and acted accordingly in his rhytmic tsuki driving Tshima back. It wasn't enough though as Tshima is specializing in somewhat unelequant slap/pull/fussing around wins in this basho. Iwakiyama looks very strong despite the loss. Tomorrow we'll have exceptionally interesting bout between Kokkai and Iwakiyama!! Kokkai won't be able to push Iwakiyama out with his style so it'll be fascinating and all family members you can get contact with should be contacted and advised to find an on-line environment with live sumo video. It will be a good sumo exhibition of one kind. Takamisakke! Nice uwate drive to counter Tsuumi's shitatenage attempt. Very powerful move. He is in great shape and world smiles. Tsuumi's tachi-ai was uncharacteriscally strong for him. Tochiazuma wanders in the valley of the doomed ones again. He had nothing to offer to Shimotori who didn't even have his primary weapon in use at all. Only right hand inside but it was more than enough to topple hapless Azuma with a perfectly timed shitatenage. Dale's video has a change in angle at the very moment when the throw is initiated but it looked as if Azuma may have planned uwatenage simultaneously and hence suffered a strangely weak collapse under Shimotori's weaker arm's shitate-pressure. If the shoulder is causing him problems already, it won't be much fun for him this basho. 0-2 and misery. Chiyotaikai's condition is very fragile too. Sinful luck combined with good kotenage reflex saved him today but he doesn't have the forward drive yet at all. Look out for a 1000-0 loss in the near future to some random rikishi Z. At least he is winning though and day by day he can become more secure and find his sumo and courage to rely more on his calf. So far he doesn't look too good. Musoyama came back with a normal win against Shuzan. This is how it goes when Shuzan's pulls/yanks are too late. Musoyama had a stressful but easy day. Shuzan can now concentrate on tomorrow's sumo love affair with Shoryu. KaioU is in his own class for now in the ozeki group. He tried to fed Kakizoe with a welcoming elbow strike which Kakizoe avoided and open bout ensued. Despite a rather open-armed stance KaioU easily kept Kakizoe in control and once Kakizoe was wrapped, it was sliding yorikiri and a wave whose meaning remained undetermined. Tochinonada was the king of power today. As nearly always, Wakanosato got his right hand on the belt leaving Nada with left shitate. This time Nada's grip was awesome and he used that and his hip power to shuffle Waka back and out in a fantastic display of Nada-omnipotence. Kotomitsuki vs Tenho was abysmal. Too much energy at tachi-ai and Koto's legs stopped co-operating synchrony-wise. Tenho just watched the show and let Koto fall down due to unsynchronized legs and vanished foe support. Miyabiyama's dismal day 1 bout was forgotten and he gave Shoryu a good bout with many good moves. Shitatenage isn't exactly Miya's area of expertise but nice attempt anyway at the end of the action-rich and longish bout. Takanonami is finished (again). Did anyone see juryo bouts? What were the highlights of juryo in addition to evidently exciting Oikari-Roho? Kasugao seems to be 2-0 with a sukuinage win over Towanoyama........15-0 ;-)
Mark Buckton 1 Posted March 15, 2004 This from Kakitsume's post above - "". If the shoulder is causing him problems already, it won't be much fun for him this basho. 0-2 and misery."" Azuma was grimacing pretty strongly when they appeared at a standstill locked on the mawashi, locked in place. That grimace got stronger when he had to get up off the floor. Pride? Shoulder? Both? Sakari was pretty good today and even Takekaze impressed with his work rate - following January's collapse.

aderechelsea 124 Posted March 15, 2004 i knew about this site but i have a complain........ why are the lower makutsita and juryo games in WMP format that you need a microscope to understand what is going on? you will answer "because it is much smaller files" but i have to say my complain.......... :-( Not to sound ungreatful i have to say "THANK YOU" to the guy who makes all that work that allows me to see the fights when i cannot do it "live"...... ;-)

Iwakiyama is a high-maegashira to sanyaku claibur rikishi, and should be favored. It will be a great bout.
Yubiquitoyama 4 Posted March 15, 2004 why are the lower makutsita and juryo games in WMP format that you need a microscope to understand what is going on? Unfortunately, this is the video quality the NSK provide. Nothing to do about it for Alexander who makes it available afterwards.

What were the highlights of juryo in addition to evidently exciting Oikari-Roho?Kasugao seems to be 2-0 with a sukuinage win over Towanoyama........15-0 :-D Great bout by Kasugao. On day one he slammed down another Giant - Kitazakura - by Uwatenage I think. That's the Kasugao I like. (Applauding...) Can anyone tell me if there was a mono-ii after the bout between Towanoyama and Hakuho on day one? It doesn't seem so on Alexander's movies. I personally doubt the gyoji's decision to say the least...
aderechelsea 124 Posted March 15, 2004 Dejima looks weaker than I thought he would. Does anyone else think he's probably reach his highest banzuke position for the rest of his career this basho? Dejima is weaker than i expected......... his performance in the first two days in disappointing mainly because he lost to Wakanosato easily and lost to Chiyotaikai not by oshi-sumo as i would expect..... he has even less hope against Kaio on day 3 and with 0-3 to start a basho things don't look good for him.......(he is usually better in the beggining than in the end of bashos) i don't know if this will be the highest rank he will reach untill he finishes his career but he might be an elevator for a while more (he is better than the lower rikishis but weaker than the sanyaku or higher.......).I think this is his righteous position..... Yubiquitoyama 4 Posted March 15, 2004 Dejima looks weaker than I thought he would. Does anyone else think he's probably reach his highest banzuke position for the rest of his career this basho? I am not so sure about that. Actually, I'm surprised he looked quite as lively as he did in the first two matches, despite losing. Especially against Chiyotaikai, I think he really showed he's not over and done with yet. I have predicted the downfall of Dejima for a long time, but he still shows no particular signs to be on his way out. I can still see him making at least one more sanyaku comeback, although likely not next basho...
Tumppi 0 Posted March 15, 2004 There's definitely something going on with Tochiazuma. Also Chiyotaikai's calf seems to bother him. Kaio has looked very promising so far! aderechelsea 124 Posted March 15, 2004 @Asashosakari as you can see in my previous post i said that i think "he will be an elevator for a while".Isn't this what you mean too when you say he will be "komusubi-M4 area is the best he can hope for" ? i am not trying to "end" his career but it's peak is long gone IMO. @Yobi-san "you are not so sure about it" means that he can go to Ozeki again ?I don't believe that you meant that........... I just didn't agree with the sentiment that his basho has started badly just because he lost against two guys who are clearly better than him these days. No, that was an answer to the post I quoted from Yoavoshimaru-zeki about Dejima not getting any higher than this. I think he might become sanyaku again (as I also said later in that post).
