Hi Fujisan, It's totally okay to write here in English (hence the topic's subtitle says "bilingual"), so feel free - and any other player! - to share your opinions here with us. I'm sorry you couldn't access the Yoso page, it's at the same place where Kumi is. By the way, I can't see your Kumi entry, either, didn't you get any error message during the sending? (Could you forward me your confirmation e-mail?) As for the Yoso then - I take it as kyujo, okay? Just for avoiding a big fall on banzuke. :-) Minden j Edited March 12, 2004 by Nekonishiki Banji

Yes, this was the funny thing, that there isn't at least one Hungarian-speaking member in the leadership of the Hungarian-speaking subforum. :)
Doitsuyama 1,185 Posted March 14, 2004 If I can add my experience in administering a sumo game for some time, the Hoshitori game: The hoshitori game also officially has a deadline, but I always have been extremely lenient in accepting late entries. The latest entry I accepted today was borderline though, as it came while Makuuchi dohyo-iri already was taking place. The one after that couldn't be accepted though as it came after the last bout. (Ranting...) My reasoning is that there is very little chance that an entry is late because of utilizing late news unknown to other players to gain an advantage but it is late just due to any other reason and I hate punishing players for that. The hoshitori game also don't need any pre-basho actions like Bench Sumo does with the torikumi-making etc.
Nekonishiki Banji 375 Posted March 14, 2004 Yes, I agree with you, but my main reason is in point 3. For the time being I must enter all entries into Excel worksheets one after another, and in case of two games I needs a lot of time for it. So I simply can't afford that I accept entries even shortly before the bouts begin (or even when they begun - well, I know that results of Day 1 don't mean anything yet ;)). I can spend some time with them on Saturday only, so this is why I set the deadline for Friday midnight. I suppose you have much better way for working up the entries and calculating the scores (do you?) than this #&@#&{ Excel, maybe we could consult about it in private after the basho? I actually did not believe that Kumi and Yoso will be so popular (Ranting...) so it would be very good if I had a much simpler and faster way of work. Doitsuyama 1,185 Posted March 14, 2004 Oh, calculating the scores with Excel isn't bad at all as this gives a fairly good flexibility with the calculation formulas etc. It also is pretty much automated and not too much work during the basho. As you say the input of the entries into Excel can be the workload. I have automated this part too meanwhile as following: The entry form now writes the entries into a MySQL-database (which is quite simple, only a single table). The output of the database (just browsing with PHPMyAdmin) can instantly be copied with IE to Excel, and everything is ready to go. (Ranting...) If you like I could easily write a form to write the Yoso and Kumi entries to another database on my MySQL server (which runs surprisingly stable compared to the Sumogames server for example, I NEVER had a problem :-( ). This really is no work at all for me, if you like we could try it out after the basho.

When we worked on this new application script with Kashunowaka (okay, of course the major work was his, but he taught me some things :-( ), I could see that scripts can make life much easier. My problem is that nowadays I don't have enough time to sit down and learn at least one scripting language. More exactly, there are many things I would have to learn now, and I must make priorities. :-S

Fujisan 533 Posted March 16, 2004 Sorry for the slow reply Nekonishiki but my internet access is very limited right now- Anyway thanks for trying to help with my entries but I guess I am content to just play Kumi for now at least,I do seem to be doing quite well right now in 13th place despite Tosanoumi and Futenos nil points- I am already playing 15 games so no disrespect but Im not too worried if I cant access the odd game or two- Thanks again Nekonishiki.
