Fay 1,677 Posted March 30, 2010 I think you can go overboard with all these political correctness.
ilovesumo 12 Posted March 30, 2010 Oh come on! *rolling my eyes* Then we must stop those nasty rituals like Karneval or Halloween and so on... I went as a "American Native" when I was 9 years old. Oh my lord, what have I done... (Order, order!) I do not like those suits cause there usually goes no education with "Sumo-events" like that and the "fat guys in diapers" image doesn't change. In my Sumo-speeches, while describing Anko-gata and Soppu-gata (big and skinny Rikishi, their advantages and disadvantages) I hold up king-size Sumo-shorts to insert some humour , cause humour is a knowledge-staple...some people there need a lot more of it. Sokkenaiyama 80 Posted March 30, 2010 BS, and I don't mean Bench Sumo. While I'm not the biggest fan of sumo suits, as they're a mockery of sumo, they have nothing to do with racism. Jeez.
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted March 30, 2010 We'll be voting from the roofs and treading knee deep in blood in my lifetime. I'm considering entering politics. My part will be minimal but the best I can do. This Marxist, "racist", multiculturalist filth pours to my apartment daily from every screen I happen to switch on. One day a vein will burst. Asashosakari 18,967 Posted March 30, 2010 (edited) I suspect it will come as news to Japanese people that looking like a prototypical sumo wrestler is part of the Japanese "racial identity", considering much of the status of sumo wrestlers across the decades and centuries is derived from the very fact that they aren't (or at least aren't presented) like the average Japanese person. Talk about ignorant Western condescension masking as multicultural understanding. But eh, just episode #131,586 of the long-running show "Committed multiculturalists are the new reactionaries", and it's only a student government of a public university; it would be more surprising if they didn't engage in useless grandstanding. I had to chuckle at this part of the article: For its part, Queen's has a proud tradition of inclusivity. It was the first school in Canada to graduate a black man, Robert Sutherland, who became a prominent lawyer. Its student pub, Alfie's, is named for the son of a runaway slave who became a football mascot. Yep, that's some inclusivity right there. Flohru 176 Posted March 31, 2010 This Marxist, "racist", multiculturalist filth pours to my apartment daily from every screen I happen to switch on. One day a vein will burst. I'm not sure if that should be commented, but the connection between multiculturalism and Marxism, both of which has not much to do with exaggerated political correctness like in the case here anyway, is simply ridiculous. That said, you should be aware that there are no true Marxists anymore nowadays, neither in Canadian student organizations nor elsewhere. I suspect it will come as news to Japanese people that looking like a prototypical sumo wrestler is part of the Japanese "racial identity"... Agreed, but for racism in general it is not important if something is actually part of someone's "racial identity" but rather if it is perceived as such. Plus Sumo is undoubtedly (still) the Japanese National Sport (both within self-perception and the perception of others) and as such a part of the national identity of Japan. I'm beginning to believe you're one of them Marxists yourself! They're everywhere! (On the banzuke...) That said, you should be aware that there are no true Marxists anymore nowadays, neither in Canadian student organizations nor elsewhere. That you would like us to believe. There's a Marxist walking on the street by my apartment as I write! Most likely he's a feminist as well. There comes another! They're everywhere! (Blinking...) Just because I'm a deranged village idiot, doesn't mean they're not after me!!!1!

Hey, if you are planning to go into politics, you might want to start a Finnish version of this, maybe call it Kotoseiyaism! (On the banzuke...) shumitto 418 Posted March 31, 2010 (edited) The title "Sumo suits racist" I understood as something like : does it suit people with racists views ? which would not "suit" their (the Uni) purpose of making the West look evil. Edit: the only serious problem of these suits is they come first when looking for Sumo-related videos on youtube. Edited March 31, 2010 by shumitto
Bealzbob 0 Posted March 31, 2010 Hilarious. I needed a good laugh. And as usual, Asashosakari sums it up nicely from my POV.
