Playoffs

All playoffs will be held after bout 4 of Makuuchi, as Kimurayama and Tochinonada are both up in Makuuchi today and are in the running after Tamaasuka lost. Kouryuu also has 4 losses-4 way playoff possible. The Jonokuchi and Jonidan playoffs will be held at the same time.

All-division champions (except Makuuchi, obviously..)

Jonokuchi- Sasakiyama (beating his heyamate Shibahara in a playoff match)

Jonidan- Chiyonishiki (beating Hokutotsuru)

Sandanme-Senshou (Mongolian)

Makushita- Aoiyama (Bulgarian)

Juryo- Kimurayama, totally dominating the playoffs beating Kouryuu and Tamaasuka - combined match length- about 3.1 seconds..

Thank you for posting the results so quickly. I was wondering if anyone knows why Chiyonishiki has missed such an extraordinary number of bashos and other matches in his career, injuries, illnesses or a combination?

I think Chiyonishiki is just trying to win all divisional yushos in order. He finally got the jonokuchi yusho after dropping back four times, and now after another four spin cycles he has the jonidan yusho, too. I think we can now expect him to become a makushita quality rikishi who wins the sandanme yusho circa 2015.

All kidding aside, my understanding is that he's just injury-prone, but I'm really not sure.
