Imumaru 0 Posted November 7, 2009 As every Banzuke Surfer knows, the second wave ''ended'' at the beginning of Aki '09 (with inverted commas because Jakusotsu continues the wave for those who want), and Jejima had the great idea of keeping the results of ended waves in order to make a kind of overall ranking. Well, I developped the idea, with the help of Randomitsuki, and will held such a ranking from now on. The points are allocated as follow : For each wave, 1st = 40pts, 2nd = 35pts, 3rd = 31pts, 4th = 28pts, 5th = 26pts, 6th to 30th = 25 to 1pt In case of tie between two or more players (ie same previous pick), the same number of points is given to all of them, and this number is the higher number of points possible for a player from this group (for instance : if two players tie for 3rd position, both win 31 points). For each unused joker one point in awarded, provided that the player is ranked between the 1st and the 30th position. There will be two differents rankings : (On the banzuke...) The first one is the Final Overall Ranking : this classification use the results of already finished waves (the 2nd wave now, the 1st in january). The points from each wave are added. In case of tie, the higher ranked player is the one who got the higher number of points in the latest wave (the second wave is later than the first, even if it stopped before). If there is still a tie, the second latest wave results are consulted, and so on. If there is still a tie, players share their rank. Players with 0 points are not ranked. (On the banzuke...) The second one is more a 'current' ranking, because it is renewed every two month. This one considers the five latest waves in order to make a classification, the points from each of those waves are added, taking into account multiplicative coefficients. The coefficients change every basho, because I tried to reach a compromise between the olders waves, which count less than the newers, and the latest wave, in witch I do not put the maximal multiplicative coefficient directly in the Haru standings (because this would mean that one and only choice would weight more than the six of the year before, moreover the ranking after just one event is a bit chaotic). Here are my coefficients, from the oldest to the latest wave : -Hatsu : 4-5-6-7-8 -Haru : 5-6-7-8-4 -Natsu : 4-6-7-8-5 -Nagoya : 4-5-7-8-6 -Aki : 4-5-6-8-7 -Kyushu : 4-5-6-7-8 For each basho, the total amount of coefficients is 30. (so the maximal score is 43*30=1290) In case of tie, the higher ranked player is the one who got the higher number of points in the latest started wave. If there is still a tie, the second latest started wave results are consulted, and so on. If there is still a tie, players share their rank. Players with 0 points are not ranked. Imumaru P.S.: I'm a Frenchman with only 6 years of background in English, so I apologie for every kind of revolting, horrible, awful mistake I am easily able to do in the Shakespeare's language (I'm not the best friend of English teachers, my papers are nightmarish when I'm in a bad day (In a state of confusion...) )
Imumaru 0 Posted November 7, 2009 Standings before Kyushu 2009 : The first classification use the results of the 5 latest waves, and this is the penultimate time that 1st wave standings are used. Golynohana (Yusho winner...) leads with an impressive score of 1144 (out of 1290, 89% of the maximal score!), the second place is the property of game-runner Randomitsuki (On the banzuke...) (987 points), and the podium is completed by Azumashida (Third prize...) (772 points). 14 players scored points in every wave. Sashohitowa 6 Posted November 13, 2009 It's all fine, just that it somehow penalizes the players that do not participate in all the waves. For example me - I have decided to join late and entered from 4th wave onward. If I have entered the first three waves as well, entering the same picks as for the 4th wave (something that makes no sense in my opinion), I would have been on 15th place in 1st wave, 17th in 2nd wave and 15th in 3rd wave, adding 18, 16 and 18 points respectively. Times the coefficients, it gives additional 195 points = overall 447, or 15 positions up (without counting how less points would have the other surfers had with me in the ranking of the first three waves..). Again, surfing with one and same picks is something senseless in my opinion and doesn't bring any fun - so I think that the scoring should be somehow adjusted for the players that surf only some of the waves. Otherwise I like the idea - thanks for driving this!
Imumaru 0 Posted December 24, 2009 To Sashohiowa : The purpose of this ranking is to have an idea of who is the better picker of the (circa) 5 past years. I understand what you say, but I think that judge a player over one (or two) results, while others are judged on far more (ie up to 5), is not fair, because I think that finish 10th on the only wave you participate in is easier than finish 15th in every wave. Currently all the calculations are made by hand; however if lots of players want such a change, I'll do it when I'll have a file to help me. But now : the Standings before Hatsu basho 2010 Only the 'final' ranking today, in which only the already finished waves results are used : Golynohana remains on the first position, Andoreasu is only two points behind. Fujisan completes the podium. The biggest raise in the ranking is made by Ganzohnesushi (+17), followed by Asashosakari (+15) and Fujisan (+11). The heaviest fall is made by Jejima (-17), followed by Odoriou (-16) and Asafan (-14). We have seven newcomers : first wave winner Gernobono is 10th with 40 points, then we have to go down to the 28th position to find Jakusotsu. Fay, Gusoyama and Konosato shate the 31st rank. Imumaru 0 Posted January 11, 2010 Here is the 'current' ranking of banzuke surfing. As always, Golynohana leads the race, with a quite huge margin of 225 points ahead of Randomitsuki. Azumashida completes the podium, with just 5 points less than Randomitsuki. The player who gained the higher number of positions is Kaiowaka (17th, +12), followed by Tamanaojigima (20th, +11) and Gusoyama (26th, +10). Great performance by Doitsuyama and Asashosakari. They gained respectively 5 and 6 positions and are now ranked 4th and 5th. The most important falls are made by Jakusotsu (28th, -14) and Profomisakari (37th, -10). We have 2 new ranked players : Pikenoyama and Holleshoryu, who share the 38th rank with 120 points. One player quits the ranking : Zentoryu : I hope you will come back soon! And, for my greater pleasure, the last ranked player is the same as two months ago : please applause my fellow french-forumer Terarno! Imumaru 0 Posted January 11, 2010 (edited) Maybe I'm overlooking something, but why don't I get points for Wave 2 anymore? You don't get points from the second wave because the second wave results are taken when Golynohana reached sanyaku ranks, two bashos ago, and the wave results for this ranking are considered as 'final' at that moment (Aki banzuke). You were 32nd, and the first 30 players get points, that's why you do not. I hope I am clear enough ;-) Edited January 11, 2010 by Imumaru

Imumaru 0 Posted March 28, 2010 I'm very late, but here is the banzuke surfing ranking before the Haru basho. Some changes in the calculation : For each wave : -The leader do not receive bonus points for unused jokers -The second in the ranking do not receive more than one point for unused jokers -The third in the ranking do not receive more than two points for unused jokers For the wave of the current year : no bonus points for unused jokers are awarded. That means that the higher possible amount of points is 1200. Golynohana still leads with 1170 points (whaw!), Randomitsuki hits the 1000 points. Azumashida is 3rd. The 4th is Doitsuyama, just one point ahead of Asashosakari. The best positive evolution is made by Fukurou (+16), followed by Sashohitowa and Manekineko. Fay and Konosato lost all the points they had, so they are no longer ranked. See you before (I hope...) the Natsu basho for the next ranking! Imumaru 0 Posted May 29, 2010 Ranking before the Natsu basho : Short version this time, I tried to find a solution for the table during the basho in order to have only to copy/paste but I failed... I'll ask a friend of mine, I hope this will work for the Nagoya basho. The top five remains as it was... leader Golynohana lost 136 points and Randomitsuki lost more : 176. Azunashida lost less points; and Doitsuyama and Asashosakari won points. The battle for 9th is close : 553-553-552-551!
