Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted February 24, 2003 I was just about to start a new topic to discuss the new banzuke, but you were quicker Kotoseiya Yuichi :-D Very nice promotions for Wakanosato and Dejima. I think Wakanosato will be able to maintain his sekiwake, but only 50% chance for Dejima to stay sanyaku as the competition becomes more difficult, especially if the ozeki are healthier. Bigger promotion than I expected for Shimotori. It's weird to see him this high up. How does everyone think he's going to do? Interesting to see that both M5's stayed the same, despite one having KK and the other MK in hatsu 2003. Higher debut rank than I expected for M10 Asasekiryu, and also higher than expected (but not debut) for Buyuzan. I can't wait for the basho to start!!! Zentoryu 154 Posted February 24, 2003 My only comment: Toki got really lucky on this banzuke. Dropping only 4 spots with that 4-11. (Oh my god...)
Kintamayama 40,089 Posted February 24, 2003 Interesting to see that both M5's stayed the same, despite one having KK and the other MK in hatsu 2003. M5 last time were Kaihou(east) and Iwakiyama (west). Both had 7-8 MKs, both dropped a half of a rank. Kotoryuu, who will be M5 East, had a 8-7 at M8 west. Where did both M5 stay the same as last basho? Or did I misunderstand as usual?

Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted February 25, 2003 M5 last time were Kaihou(east) and Iwakiyama (west). Both had 7-8 MKs, both dropped a half of a rank. You are of course correct, Kintamayama-zeki. I neglected to account for the East/West difference in rank. I'm still somewhat new to sumo :-D
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted March 4, 2003 Finally the Banzuke Topics page seems to be up as well.
Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted March 5, 2003 There are many interesting points on the Banzuke Topics page above. I like this one: With Asashoryu's promotion to yokozuna his heya master, Takasago Oyakata (the former ozeki, Asashio) becomes the first former collegian competitor to inherit or establish a heya and raise one of his rikishi to achieve sumo's highest rank.
