Looks like an actor wearing a rubber mask to me.

You can hear a small part of the 7:04 long hit here (IE only and you have to find the first link under the caricature that has a musical note and says ่ดใ )

Here's a link to the teaser video: http://sumo.goo.ne.jp/ozumo_joho_kyoku/spe...st/cd/movie.asx

The full list (in Japanese) of oyakata crooners is on this page:

Letting regular lower-division fans into the first floor till the juryo come on, as has been the custom for decades, would be a much bigger boost, IMHO. It was nice to see the 'Full House' signs today, with a whole lot of new Japanese fans crowding in -- but the signs, and enforcers, of the 'No entry unless you have a ticket to the 1st floor' are still there. The Kyokai is losing a lot of the ground support it has traditionally relied upon. This includes me, after 38 years of going in early to support the teenagers.

Is this chicken really new? I can remember seeing him on the Japanese side of the NSK website for quite some time (a year or so).

I was under the mistaken impression that Sumo already had a mascot called Domokun, an odd looking brick with razor sharp teeth that somehow still manages to look cute, but then on closer inspection i found out he is the NHK channel's mascot, personally i really like this new chicken :)

Not the bird mascot but does anyone have a source for the sweating rikishi drawing they showed, sweating under a dragon I assume for the year of the dragon. I searched but in English and Japanese of course it only yielded pictures of Asashoryuu sweating...

The oyakata all-stars performed on the video stream today. They seemed to be having a great time!

And now, the song. 10 Oyakatas ("The Oyakata Allstars", led by Mihougaseki who already has recorded a major hit in the past..) gathered to record the Hiyonoyama song "Hakkeyoi!! Ozumo Hiyonoyama Counting Song", out on a CD soon. It will be sold in the KKan from Sunday but can be downloaded from the Internet from today. "It's a really catchy tune that hopefully will bring more interest to sumo. I hope it becomes a gigantic hit!!" enthused Nishonoseki Oyakata who was in charge of the project.

The song is wonderful! Does anyone know exactly where and how you can download it? Can't really find a link on the kyokai page (although I did find a very amusing Google translation, lots of laughs if you want to check it out: http://translate.google.se/translate?sl=ja...ml&act=url).

If not found on the web, maybe anyone he finds a CD copy can buy one for me? I'll send you money in advance if possible.

BTW, I'm Maguroyama. Couldn't access my old account for some reason...
