Sagitta 0 Posted July 19, 2009 Why is it, that I don't see Takanohana as a kyogi shinpan anymore? Greetz, Sagitta.

Sagitta 0 Posted July 19, 2009 Not that easy to identify someone in stream but I'm pretty sure that he was shown sitting there as usual. As far as I can remember, Takanohana got promoted to shinpan-cho (headjudge) a while ago. So he was sitting with his back to the camera and was the spokesman in a monoii. He has done a few basho's in this function and now I think that I didn't see him for at least three basho's. Somewhere on this forum, I have seen, that Takanohana and his wife where involved in a few lawsuits sueing some magazines that had charged him of bribing his brother in a 1995 basho. Is it possible that this has something to do with it? Sagitta.
Fay 1,677 Posted July 19, 2009 Takanohana isn't chief shimpan any longer, it's Takasago Oyakata now. You will not see him at the dohyo in one of the shimpan groups, not even with his back. I think I remember that he is now chief of the jungyo tours - but I'm not sure.
Jonosuke 28 Posted July 19, 2009 Since February of this year he has been re-assigned to Deputy Director of Jungyo as well as Central Security, replaced by Takasago oyakata. Takanohana appeared not to feel strongly to enforce strict tachiai policy installed by the current chairman and that may have something to do with his move but then so far it's been proven that Takasago is turning out to be worse. At the risk of sending this thread a little off course: If Takanohana was removed for that reason, one wonders (well, at least I would wonder...) why either Mihogaseki or Hanaregoma wasn't promoted, since they had already showed the Rijicho they were 'on board?' (I am not worthy...) Safe choices apparently not as high a priority for NSK as I thought...

Thanks, I think I'm awake now... (Oops!) ;-) :-D But I could be wrong about that. ;-)
