Asashosakari 18,868 Posted May 9, 2009 Wow, almost 50 this time after the last few basho finally saw some lower numbers than we had in 2007 and early 2008. That makushita list looks pretty star-studded...two recent sekitori and two highly-touted prospects among them.
Randomitsuki 2,778 Posted May 9, 2009 That makushita list looks pretty star-studded...two recent sekitori and two highly-touted prospects among them. Makushita and Sandanme have 321 rikishi. 101 of them are on my talent list, and eight of these 101 rikishi are kyujo (7.9%). In contrast, 220 are not on my talent list, and only six of these rikishi are injured (2.7%). Maybe this is just natural, as non-talented rikishi are more likely to go intai when injured, while the talents still try to hang on. But still, it's depressing to see so many prospects dropping out. Asashosakari 18,868 Posted May 9, 2009 Hmm, either Sd53e Haruhikari or Sd54e Tochinohama may also be absent. The Day 1 torikumi doesn't make any sense to me otherwise...
Fukurou 534 Posted May 9, 2009 (edited) Hmm, either Sd53e Haruhikari or Sd54e Tochinohama may also be absent. The Day 1 torikumi doesn't make any sense to me otherwise... I just double-checked both torikumi and day 1 absences on the NSK site, and there's no sign of either of them (although their west-side counterparts are both on the d1 torikumi). Why doesn't the torikumi make sense without them? Edited May 9, 2009 by Fukurou
Asashosakari 18,868 Posted May 9, 2009 (edited) I just double-checked both torikumi and day 1 absences on the NSK site, and there's no sign of either of them (although their west-side counterparts are both on the d1 torikumi). Why doesn't the torikumi make sense without them? Kozan-Notozakura takes place on Day 1, which should imply Kyokushoten-Haruhikari on Day 2, and Kyokuhozan-Tochinohama on Day 1. But Day 1 has Kyokuhozan-Isanokuni per Naganoyama's posting, so that can't be right. Alternative possibilities: 1) Tochinohama is absent, then Day 2 would be Kyokushoten-Haruhikari, and Day 1 Kyokuhozan-Isanokuni, which fits what's already published. Or slightly more complicated: 2) Haruhikari is absent, then the Day 2 bout should be Kyokushoten-Tochinohama (it would be the two Kyoku's by strict order, but they're in the same stable), and Day 1 Kyokuhozan-Isanokuni. That also fits the published Day 1 bouts. Either way, I can't figure out a Day 2 schedule that has space for both Haruhikari and Tochinohama, so one should be absent. Unless I'm totally missing something... Edited May 9, 2009 by Asashosakari
