Kintamayama 40,721 Posted April 28, 2009 258 kilos is the new record for a Japanese rikishi, recorded at the latest weigh -in by Yamamotoyama. He broke his own record by 6 kilos. The former record holder was ex-Juryo Susanoumi who tipped the scales at 240 kilos back then. YMY holding up his new daily menu:
Mattjila 0 Posted April 28, 2009 Does this make him second only to Konishiki in weight? I seem to remember Orora only getting to 254 kg or so.

Doitsuyama 1,153 Posted April 28, 2009 Does this make him second only to Konishiki in weight? I seem to remember Orora only getting to 254 kg or so. Yes, it seems that is correct. Orora was listed with 257.5 kg in the May 2006 issue of Sumo magazine... you could say YMY did just enough to overtake that mark.

And at Ms7, he's going to get his butt handed to him on a platter... The people at that level might not be yokozuna-level candidates, but they're not stupid. He's not a Konishiki, and if he gains any more weight, he might as well be a pylon in the middle of the dohyo.
Barang 0 Posted April 29, 2009 When Rikishis go to tour I suppose that YMY needs two seats in plane and bus. How many kilos YMY needs more that he may hold both East and West positions in next Banzuke (Holiday feeling...)

Talking of butts, his was about five feet away from my seat for several minutes this morning at the soken, and it wasn't a pretty sight. (Holiday feeling...) Has YMY expressed any desire to 'gambarize' and go for Konishiki's record? (Sign of disapproval...) I would still fear for my life if I had one of those "ring-side" seats... At least with someone like Baruto or Kotomitsuki, or even Kotooshu, who have good mobility and are somewhat agile, the possibility of having them land on you is minimal. With YMY, - who once he gets going has all the steerability of a cow - there's a very real possibility of an avalanche! On the upside, most of YMY is soft, mushy stuff. Getting hit by Kotooshu or Baruto is like hitting a tree. Getting hit by YMY is like being bodychecked by a large sofa. There IS the risk of asphyxiation...
