Dear Sumo Friends,

We are pleased to announce that the Sadogatake Beya is coming to the Netherlands for a special event which will take place June 5 th & 6th 2009 to celebrate 400 years anniversary of trade relationships between Holland and Japan.

The Sumo Days will take place in Heineken Music Hall, Amsterdam , The Netherlands

We are hoping to create truly amazing cultural experience for all the participants of the event. The evening will consist of sumo demonstrations and actual sumo matches by 20 wrestlers by the Sadotgake Beya from Tokio.This the first time the Japanese group have been to The Netherlands and the European Union .For sumo lovers living in Europe this is a chance not to miss, especially as the tour planned for October of this year was sadly cancelled.

Sadly there are no tickets at all for resale.

I phoned today with the japanese organizer of the event and they told me I could order tickets for one day or for the two days.

You can have a package for 1.000,- Euro, which would mean 15 tickets = 66,6666666666 for one ticket (or for 2.000,- Euro or, or, or)

So it should be possible to get at least 15 people together ...

I don't know what other people could think, but I guess that this could be the best chance to watch sumo live (the big guys) in Europe in some years, so I'm going to go to Amsterdam to watch it with my friend Rubensan. I hope to meet some other sumo forum members there for enjoying a very pleasant sumo weekend. (Enjoyable TV program...)

And a big applause for Fay for providing us this opportunity. (Eh?)

Take this with a grain of salt, but just in case: As part of the Kyokai's swine flu precautions, the online papers have been bringing up the possibility of travel restrictions for its rikishi post-Natsu basho. No official comments to that effect, though, other than to point out that there's no such travels planned before the basho so it's not a relevant issue (yet).

Some more Sadogatake in the Nederlands.

On Saturday and sunday (6.7. and 7.7.) there is a Japan Festival in Amstelveen, not far from Amsterdam with some action like:

- longest sushi bar

- Taiko drums

- Ninja turtle workout

- Nintendo Wii

- Origami workshop

- Karaoke .....

On Sunday the Sadogatake guys will come to Amstelveen, they will tell people about sumo and one can take pictures with them (only 45 minutes so only a little chance to see them, but who knows where else they will appear in the Nederlands (In a state of confusion...) )

I have just heard that both days are now officially full 3,500 tickets (sold) per day .

The Amsterdam jungyo may be canceled. Everything was already in place, but the Kyokai has voiced an opinion that "because of the municipality's stance towards drugs", they may cancel it. With all the anti-doping checkups going on, the Kyokai were worried that someone might take advantage of the lax laws out there. Sadogatake had promised that they will not be allowed to roam the city freely as a countermeasure, but to no avail. "At this time, wouldn't it be better they don't go? ", asked Musashigawa rijicho. "It's not a demand, it's just my opinion", he explained. The final decision will be made after senshuraku. "It's looking increasingly difficult to go through with it now..", said Sadogatake Oyakata. From the side of the JCC (the body arranging the jungyo) a clerk was quoted as saying he knows nothing, as his boss was absent.

If I'm reading it correctly, Mainichi is saying according to someone at the Kyokai, the jungyo has been cancelled because of fears over swine flu.

As I said in my pictures thread on thursday, the okamisan had just phoned with the kyokai because of the Amsterdam tour when I was at the stable for watching keiko. She told me about both problems, the first was the influenza but she said they are also concerned about the easy access to drugs in the nederlands. The okamisan was sure that they could handle this but the stable is not the only one to decide (Detective...).

Is my translation right

明らかになった - became obvious ? That term has too many translations in German, so I am unsure about it.

And both reasons such utter crap! Oh my goodness...in a twisted kind of way the influenza panic can be understood as a reason - no matter how totally unfounded way to cancel a trip like that- but to say "bad bad places there where rikishi may take DRUGS!" is such tragicomic reason that it is just surreal. What a load of bull. Be very not well at all. Maybe some good dose of H1N1 among the "brains" of Kyokai could wake them up (or kill them which is not wanted of course).

I wonder when will some oyakata say "no more degeiko because H1N1 may loom there!!!"

Yes, your translation is correct. The phrase 'akiraka ni natta' can be translated as "became clear" or "became apparent" but I don't really think that obvious is the best word to use, well not in this case at least.
