ilovesumo 12 Posted February 13, 2009 Even I won't finish and I am jogging a lot with some less kilos. but after 2 and a half hours I am dead. (Showing respect...) Anyway, would be cool if he can do some kilometers. Good luck Akebono, please don't hurt yourself.
hidenohana 0 Posted February 13, 2009 I guess he's going to try to walk the distance. Still, with what seems to be a couple of months preparation this is a another very foolish enterprise on his part.
Gusoyama 103 Posted February 13, 2009 That sounds like a great idea. A very tall, very overweight 40 year old man with bad knees running a marathon.
Doitsuyama 1,192 Posted February 13, 2009 He won't finish. Wasn't there last year a report of a (ama-)sumo wrestler "finishing" a marathon in something like 8 or 10 hours? Anyone can do that in 10 hours... The Tokyo marathon is pretty popular, all available places are gone in a few hours . New York or Boston is quite easy to get a place in comparison, just make the qualification time and you are guaranteed a place. Since it's off-topic anyway: That motivated me to look for the required times and the New York qualification time actually happens to be my goal for my next race - better than 1:30 h in a half marathon on April 5th (the biggest in Germany actually). Sasanishiki 57 Posted February 14, 2009 (edited) The cut-off time for the Tokyo Marathon is to finish within 7 hours. Maybe he should watch this movie Edited February 14, 2009 by Sasanishiki
hidenohana 0 Posted February 14, 2009 From where do the Japanese broadcasters get this insatiable appetite to see Chad fall repeatedly on his face? (Showing respect...)

Good luck! I did a half marathon 5 years ago,no training and finished about 1 hour 46 mins. I was never any good at getting down and training for these things but it didn't stop me running it. Otokonoyama 2,735 Posted February 15, 2009 That's just over eight minutes a mile over the 13.1 miles. Not too shabby!

Johnofuji 232 Posted February 16, 2009 I have always wanted to do a fun run in my mawashi but two things have stopped me. Moobs and chaffing. Other logistical problems are where to put your house keys, having to get there and back without getting arrested and what happens if you need a wardrobe adjustment half way. I imagine the Tokyo fire brigade will need to be on hand to put out the spot fires generated from the friction as Chad runs.
Fujisan 533 Posted February 16, 2009 Do you wanna know my secret? I started at the front and tried to keep up,it forced me to push my limits further than I would have done if I was with the slower runners.

ilovesumo 12 Posted March 23, 2009 Oh....he seems pretty upset now...that is sad, but I must admit that I am relieved now. I was worried he would get hurt or worse... exhaustion can lead to...you know... I hope he won't loose his will, goes on training hard and can do one when his mind AND body are ready for it. Ganbatte kudasai. (Sigh...)
