Well, I've finally found uglier glasses than my wife's (Sigh...)

Ah, in that case I guess she didn't pay enough for them. ;-)

Sorry.... here it is:

Looks to me like the manager has returned, not Asashouryuu. He says he saw him only once during the trip, and the rest was a real holiday..

Asa should be returning on Sunday.

Asa is back a day earlier than promised. He will be participating in a fashion show- "Girls' Collection" in Shibuya and will walk the runway dressed as a schoolboy like in his Fanta commercial (the show is sponsored by Coca Cola)with other famous models. This will happen on the 8th, and he got special permission to leave Osaka for the day, as long as he doesn't miss keiko and is back on the same day. Pictures from that will be interesting..

Today, he enters Osaka, tomorrow he starts serious keiko. The papers are already speculating what will happen if he misses keiko on the 8th or 9th..

Nothing significant, of course.

Asashouryuu has started real preparations today with keiko, the usual sweaty shiko and stuff, and then 9 bouts against Makushita and under. He was not in a good mood, and allowed only one photographer and one reporter in ("The keiko-ba is small..", explained Takasago Oyakata..), scowling at the photographer here and there. No taping on the elbow and looking very good, reports the reporter.

Later at the rikishi- kai he was more relaxed. "Before Hatsu my stomach was empty, but now it's full. I am looking forward to doing some sumo!", he allegorized somewhat cryptically, baffling the reporter.

How is that "real" preparations??

looking very good, reports the reporter.

Let's hope a yokozuna would look "very good" against Makushita and under....

That second photograph shows Asa against a sekitori (white mawashi). I wonder if it is old footage or if the report is not entirely correct?

It's considered "real" if he actually enters the ring, regardless of his opponents. He has not done even that in the past.. As for "looking good", I think the reporter meant his physical situation, elbow and all.

Caption says "Osaka Takasago beya March 3rd", so they're either lying or it's Asasekiryuu..

"It wasn't my decision. It was the Kyokai's. It's a one-day trip so there 's no problem!", stated Asashouryuu regarding his modeling stint on the 8th.

Ryu was "lending his chest" in butsukari, which would not be considered a "bout."

As a bit of a counterpoint to the Fan-taro silliness...

Asashoryu has been invited to serve as the model for part of a "four heavenly kings" Buddhist statue. The Southern gate of the Rengein Tanjoji temple in Tamana-shi, Kumamoto prefecture (which the statue is going to adorn) is currently under reconstruction for an opening in 2011, having burned down back in the late 16th century. Asashoryu has previously attended this temple's fall festival four times and done a ceremonial dohyo-iri on those occasions, and Kyoto-based sculptor Tsukumo Imamura has asked him to come by on the 5th for modelling photography and such. Imamura has been busy working on the 4-meter high four kings statue since 2007; two are done and the third king is currently in production, modelled after Hakuho.

(Apropos using Asashoryu as the model, Imamura commented 「朝青龍関の強さや躍動感を像に生かしたい」 which I'm not even going to try to translate/mangle...)

"I'd like to incorporate Asashouryuu's power and dynamics (Dynamicness? Dinamicity?) into the statue", or something.
