I may go and do some backfilling but for the moment I thought I'd start with the senshuraku entry. Unfortunately it seems the pictures are iffy as usual.

Senshuraku

January 25th, 2009

Thanks a lot for 15 days of support.

I'm a new ozeki so 8 wins is pathetic but it's really turned into a good lesson.

From the first I've gone and fixed it.

Ozumo is really hard.

But finally I held out to the end and got kachikoshi and that was really good.

It was a long 15 days.

Today Asofuji won and it was really good!

Here we are together with the anideshi, carrying his son.

Cute kid eh!

Everyone, its been a while! (LOL)

Today, it was former Tochinohanazeki and Tochisakaezeki's danpatsu-shiki so I went to the Kokugikan for that.

For the postbasho rest I didn't return to Mongolia, I enjoyed drinking every day!!

This evening while I was drinking in Kanagawa hail was falling down...

Squeezed out a hard win~!

At last I got kachikoshi.

I'm tired.

Today a big group was watching keiko but the ozeki was able to do good keiko so we displayed a good image.

After three losses in a row the reporters calling for 62% kachikoshi odds were blown away.

It was good!

One more match tomorrow, I will do my best.

Today for Takekazezeki I thought it would be dangerous but I calmed myself down and it went well.

The current basho feels really long...

Day 10

January 20, 2009

Thankfully today against yokozuna Hakuhozeki I won.

I grabbed the front of the mawashi like I did in the prebasho keiko matches.

I beat a zensho yokozuna therefore I will try my best to continue winning until senshuraku.

Today too there were many guests in the heya.

2cd46a2756661473cfb8d0dd6cbecea9.jpg

They sang and encouraged me with the "southern straw bale" anthem (help here if you know what this is, nambutawarazumi?).

Apologies if I flub the names... sorry if they're famous, I don't know them.

Asano Yukosan and Nemoto Mayasan.

It's a song to sing on happy occasions.

I received energy from it!

Tomorrow too I will do my best ozeki battle.

Day 8

八日目

January 18, 2009

Because of yesterday's Toyonoshima fight (with Kaio, ending in kyujo after kotenage), I intended to do sumo from the outside (against Kaio today) and thrusted and did my best to grab.

Tomorrow I will do my best with ozeki spirit.

I will persevere until the end.

Thanks in advance for your support.

I feel glad for it to be this sort of "one match one win" thing.

From tomorrow until the end I will persevere and do my best.

Thanks for your support.

Alas, I don't know any way to change dates, and board software automatically sorts posts by posting date. The only solution would be to repost them in correct order, but I see no sense in that.

Thanks for moving it. They are OK as they are. Each entry is dated so people can follow it by the original dates if they want to and we already know how the basho went so it isn't like reading senshuraku first is going to spoil the surprise for anyone.

Bean scattering ceremony

February 2nd, 2009

Today I did the bean scattering ceremony with everyone at the Izumo Taisha Sagami shrine.

They were great people!

In order for good fortune to come to everyone, I tried with all my might.

Just myself eh (LOL)

It was fun!

Just myself eh (LOL)

For me too, eh!

This conveys that the bean throwing he did was to bring luck to everyone (as the previous sentence said) but that he also hopes it will work to bring him luck as well.

Thanks as always for the correction. I thought it was 'nimo' only as he was the only rikishi or only ozeki scattering beans at that shrine but your translation makes much more sense!

I think this means there were a lot of people there.

Could be, that certainly would make more sense though I've never seen it used like that. Thanks!

I think the thing is that in reading Ama's blog we need to think like a foeigner who has learnt Japanese is a functional sense. he is not a native speaker, and I doubt he has learnt the language formally like most foreigners do. Certainly reading the stuff he has written so far it is to the point and not always entirely correct. I think Nishi's sense of what he is trying to say is correct.

I'm back

I have returned from Mongolia.

Mother made preparations for the promotion party, it was even better than I had imagined and I'm deeply grateful.

Because my oyakata was introduced to my father in Japan / supporter's association leader Kohei Komakisan, this sort of great party was made possible so I am very happy.

To my mother, I give thanks to god!

I will do my best to return the favor to sumo and my oyakata.

I haven't done a lot of training lately.

Now I will do my best to turn my attention to the coming honbasho.

Every day in Mongolia, I drank too much delicious alcohol!

Now, the fiery taste of alcohol is in my throat! (LOL)

It was a lot of fun but I'm kind of tired!

February 8th, 2009

Argh, I finished with a loss.

For some reason, I couldn't concentrate at the tachiai.

I wonder if my fatigue has piled up a little...

From tomorrow on it's keiko, I must recharge my fighting spirit, eh!
