kaiguma 0 Posted January 8, 2009 Curious me: What's the little note next to "Mongolia" for Harumafuji's Shusshin? "formerly Ama" We need something like that for the forum avatars. For you a little inset picture of an orang (or whatever it was) in deep thought. :-D I figured it might be that, but I had never noticed it before for a shikona change, most likely since there hasn't been one at the top for awhile. I guess lower rankers get a note as well? I think I see one in the margin below Kiyoseumi's Shusshin. I guess it says "formerly Ichihara" Can anyone recall if Kotooshu got this kind of note when he changed only part of one kanji, with the pronunciation remaining the same? How about Shimoooootorii? I guess it says "formerly Ichihara" Right, just compare the placement of those notes to the ranks of the shikona changers in Doitsuyama's list. Besides Ama and Ichihara, there's one in low makushita and three in low sandanme, so they're all accounted for. Can anyone recall if Kotooshu got this kind of note when he changed only part of one kanji, with the pronunciation remaining the same? How about Shimoooootorii? I'm relatively sure that any kanji change gets noted whether or not there was an associated reading change, while pure reading changes (like Shimotori's second change) do not. Asashosakari 19,193 Posted January 11, 2009 (edited) The usual bits and pieces of additional changes... shusshin change: Sadanoshu - now Osaka-fu, Kishiwada-shi 大阪府岸和田市 first name changes: Wakamigo/Wakaizumi - also changed first name from Hisashi to Tsuyoshi 剛 つよし Aozora - still Daichi だいち but with new kanji 大市 And a bunch of added first names that the Kyokai DB didn't have before (I'm excluding those that are identical in the SDB and just backfilled, but these four are presumably also changes): Hisachikara - Kazumasa 和正 かずまさ Kairyu - Genki 玄氣 げんき (different kanji only) Hisanotora - Katsuta 克太 かつた Aoijo - Keiichi 景市 けいいち All Tagonoura-beya, as is Aozora - interesting. BTW, the three Tokitsukaze convicts still aren't marked intai, so Doitsuyama was right that they're apparently handled like any normal retirements and won't be changed until the end of the basho. Thanks for doing the hard work - I just added the details to Sumo Reference.
