shimodahito 336 Posted December 27, 2008 good day all, prizes have been sent to last year's winners (a tie, each with 17 points) which they should be receiving shortly. so now that the banzuke is out, it's time to invite you all to the easiest picking game of them all because your picks last a whole year. here's how it works. the torch will start with the last rikishi and last rank on the 2009 HATSU BANZUKE (HIGASHI and JONOKUCHI 29 EAST, this is also the "wildcard" pick to get the leaderboard going early on). this rikishi/rank will pass the torch to whoever defeats him during the tournaments (torch match). your task is to pick one rank and one rikishi that you think will end up with the most points throughout the year's six bashos. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR: 3 points for every torch match your chosen rikishi wins. 3 points for every torch match your chosen rank wins. 1 point for every torch match your chosen rikishi loses. 1 point for every torch match your chosen rank loses. THEN AT THE END OF THE 2009 KYUSHU BASHO: 25 points if you get the final torch holding rikishi. 25 points if you get the final torch holding rank. OR (if the exact rank and/or rikishi is not chosen by a participant)... 10 points if you are closest to the final torch holding rikishi. 10 points if you are closest to the final torch holding rank. PLUS SOME BONUS POINTS FOR THOSE WHO GET CLOSE TO THE FINAL TORCH POSITION: 10 points if your chosen rikishi is one position from the final torchholder, 9 points if two positions, 8 if three positions... and so on down to 1 point. 10 points if your chosen rank is one position from the final torchholder, 9 points if two positions, 8 if three positions... and so on down to 1 point. the player with the most points at the end of the year will get a prize. for historical reference, here's where the torch ended up the last three years: 2006, J2w 2007, Ms33w 2008, J7e please submit: 1) the name of the rikishi you think will get the most points between now and the end of the 2009 KYUSHU BASHO. and 2) the rank of the rikishi you think will get the most points between now and the end of the KYUSHU BASHO. deadline for entries is the saturday, january 10th... JST. the "wildcard" pick is (by default the lowest rank/rikishi on the banzuke)- rikishi: Higashi rank: Jonokuchi 29 East good luck!

shimodahito 336 Posted January 8, 2009 good day all, just two days left. right now i have 20 players -- the same number as last year. however, forum participation is much lower than last year. so far the most popular pick is on the rank side with juryo 5 east.... this is a low-maintenance game. you don't have to work on daily picks. and you don't even have to make adjustments each basho. and i don't think there's a statistics program that could be used to give some players the edge.... just one rank pick, and one rikishi pick predicting where the torch will finish in november is all you need to play this game for a whole year. it's easy, but perhaps its infrequency make it easy to forget..... so, the invitation is still open and i hope to get a few more picks. deadline is around midnight saturday, JST. i'll be at hatsu or haru for at least one day this year picking up next year's prize... good luck... -shimodahito
