Banzuke Surfing Kyushu 2008 (3rd Wave)

Recommended Posts

And also for this wave, I'll go with Kamei (Ms37w).

My three surfers are already close on the banzuke. Now they'll form a team and ride the same board.

Unfortunately, my 4th surfer is a bit too far back to catch the Kamei wave ...

I had first picked Kamei, but decided to change into Fukao about 10 minutes later.

Standings after day 6:

The curse of Juryo still seems to exist. To those not knowing what that means: in both 1st and 2nd Wave we had players who made it to Juryo fairly quickly, but until very recently nobody was able to hold his or her ground in that division. Maybe the same thing is happening again with 3rd Wave where Fatakiyama is in a less than comfortable position right now. Still, he leads by quite a margin. But who is in second place? It's a little murky, but I'd guess that a 5-2 from Ms36 (that's the projection for Fukao) beats a 4-3 from Ms28 (that's the projection for Ri). If that were the case, then ragerkawa moves into second place, and Vikanohara is in third place as of now.

Last basho it did, but normally not. (In a state of confusion...)

Standings after day 10:

Fatakiyama will probably fall victim to the Juryo curse, and is threatened by imminent demotion to Makushita. The battle for second place does not only rage between the Ri crew (Asashosakari, Oshirokita) and the Fukao gang (ragerkawa, Vikanohara, Golynohana), but all of sudden Fujisan and his splendid Sensho pick have joined the fray, so to speak. My awful projections see Fujisan as overtaking the other contestants, but this prediction will probably be questioned by Asashosakari any time soon ;-)

My awful projections see Fujisan as overtaking the other contestants, but this prediction will probably be questioned by Asashosakari any time soon (Zabuton flying...)

Did I ever get around to mentioning that the promotions for 6-1 in makushita (for the current decade anyway) can be predicted with surprising accuracy with a simple rule of thumb? It's (old rank minus 6) divided by 2...that gets you to within +/- 1 rank in 80+% of all cases, and within +/- 2 in 95+%. Doesn't matter if it's a 6-1 at Ms10 or Ms60, it works everywhere. It's so uncannily accurate that I'm pretty convinced the banzuke makers do it the same (or at least in a strongly related) way.

Anyway, that would mean Ms18 for Sensho if he finishes with 6 wins. :-) Probably enough to stay ahead of both Ri 4-3 and Fukao 5-2, unless there are a lot of free spots.

I dont care,I'm just pleased to be moving up this time after what seems a never ending downward spiral. (Zabuton flying...)

Final Standings and estimated ranks for Hatsu:

Didn't I name this wave the Fatakiyama wave because the upcoming French gaming star was leading by half a division? Well, I am not even sure if he will still be in the lead for the Hatsu Banzuke, as Fujisan's Sensho pick might put him into the same banzuke region as Fatakiyama's Ryuo. Imumaru made a huge jump onto 3rd place.
