Australian Female Sumo

Good luck to them, although the girls have no competition experience.

Of that group, Blake Stacey competed at this year's Oceania Champs and did well for his first tournament. I think he will gain much from the competition in Estonia.

"A GOLD Coast teenager has claimed Australia's first sumo wrestling medal in almost three decades at the World Sumo Championships in Estonia."

Gotta love the press and their attention to detail. Not to take anything away from Sumo Sammys feat but how can it be our first medal in almost 30 years if it is only the 8th Junior Sumo World Championships. There have been 16 Sumo World Championships and 7 Women Sumo World Championships. My judo sensei and Olympian Morgan Endicott Davies got Bronze in 1997 and another in one of the early championships. Its our first medal in womens or junior sumo and silver will only mean she will be hungry for the Gold.

Katrina is doing a great job so we can't wait to have Shiko funjatta (sumo do sumo don't)style sumo camps on her farm.

Camps at Katrina's? I might even compete again for a chance of that.

130 kilo's at 14!?!?!?!? Seriously, that is nothing to be applauded, she needs to get some help!

Good on the girls for getting on the Dohyo and giving it 100%!

Not sure which NZ wrestler had the flu. It wasn't me and I don't recal any of the boys being sick. I guess they might have come down with something on Sunday and Monday, after the tournament. They were staying withthe Stacey family and could have passed something on...

I don't think Sammy got the flu from any of the New Zealanders none of them were or had been sick.

One of the female athletes, with whom Sammy shared a room at the competition had had the flu but it's unlikely that she got it from her on Saturday and was sick and vomiting with it on Sunday unless it was a very fast acting bug.

Good thing it's not Swine Flu.

Sorry to say that Sammy has left Japan and is now back in Australia and back at school for the new term which just started.

She didn't have any problem with the sumo, but there were some ongoing and unresolved issues about her long distance education and her health which caused her parents to decide to bring her home.

Sammy intends to continue with sumo in Australia
