Tasha 0 Posted September 16, 2008 (edited) Fukao lost again, really sad (Tears forming...) I dont understand why (I dunno...) Edited September 16, 2008 by Tasha
Randomitsuki 2,843 Posted September 16, 2008 Wakakoyu made a further step towards Juryo by defeating former Makuuchi Towanoyama. Tomorrow he'll have a Juryo exchange bout. Former Makuuchi rikishi Tamaasuka and Katayama have a good position for Juryo promotion as well after winning their second. Lots of wily veterans (Surugatsukasa, Yotsuguruma, Ryugi, Kanbayashi, master techinician Furuichi with a kubinage, Hayasegawa, Omiryu, Wakayuki) improved to 2-0. Only two young talents (Sasaki and Nankairiki) and two middle-aged newbies (Shiratsuka, Terashita) were there to counter the invasion of the golden oldies. In Sandanme it was the day of the first-bout losers. The only two bouts between undefeated Sandanme rikishi brought wins to Enatsukasa and Chinese Kosei (with a very rare sabaori kimarite). In Jonidan the situation is the same, i.e. the road to yusho goes over tomorrow rather than today. None of the four rikishi currently at 2-0 (Tosa, Fujita, Takeuchiyama, Teraoumi) is on my talent radar as of now. Jonokuchi favorite Aratoshi won his second bout today. Jonosuke 28 Posted September 16, 2008 Fukao lost again, really sad B-) I dont understand why (Applauding...) You know Fukao isn't worth your attention. He was pretty average while at Nichi-dai and he is below average in Ozumo. You will have a happier life by drinking a cup of green tea with Yamatoyama. Doitsuyama 1,194 Posted September 16, 2008 (edited) Thanks for your comments. I used the time for some special senshuraku preparations. B-) And I don't think all juryo visits from makushita can be called "exchange bouts". This should be reserved to bouts where promotion/demotion really is on the line. Randomitsuki 2,843 Posted September 16, 2008 And I don't think all juryo visits from makushita can be called "exchange bouts". This should be reserved to bouts where promotion/demotion really is on the line. why? I guess it's because Wakakoyu's bout tomorrow is a pure necessity. "Exchange bouts", in contrast, are composed by 'evil' torikumi makers to make promotion or non-demotion particularly tricky when easier options were available. For instance, by putting an Ms3 with a 4-2 record or an Ms5 with 5-1 against Juryo opposition.
Mark Buckton 1 Posted September 16, 2008 (edited) I have never hear a Japanese equivalent. Personal term of Alex or something that belongs in the glossary? Edited September 16, 2008 by Mark Buckton
Randomitsuki 2,843 Posted September 16, 2008 I have never hear a Japanese equivalent. Personal term of Alex or something that belongs in the glossary? It's most probably not a term that is used publicly (although I bet that the torikumi makers have their expression for "exchange bouts"). Apart from that I'd say that not everything that makes perfect sense must be included in the glossary.
Manekineko 200 Posted September 16, 2008 I don't know who started using it, but I remember the term "exchange bout" being used widely and for quite some time, to mean a bout between rikishi in two different divisions (Makuuchi and Juryo, or Juryo and Makushita), of which the higher-ranked one is heading down, and the lower-ranked one is heading up. So if the lower-ranked one won the bout, on the next banzuke the two would probably exchange divsions. Thus - exchange bout.
Asashosakari 19,748 Posted September 16, 2008 I have never hear a Japanese equivalent. Mark Buckton 1 Posted September 16, 2008 interesting that - will use it today to see if it is known / has become official. Often on Sunday, I used terms a Japanese person with me didn't understand (nope - not the 'hatsuon') - most memorable of which was 'henka'
Jonosuke 28 Posted September 17, 2008 Not sure about the Kyokai people but newspapers often use "入れ替え戦" (Irekae-sen) mentioned by Asashosakari but only when in a later stage (for instance for Makushita rikishi, it will be usually their sixth or seventh bout). Although Torikumi is pervasive in media but the Kyokai people use 割 Wari (or Hon-wari) to refer to the bouts in a hon-basho. I wonder why we don't use "Divide" or "Main Divide" here but then I digress.
Mark Buckton 1 Posted September 17, 2008 hit the nail on the head there JK. - with the 'hon-wari' - got a 'nah, don't use that one' with a qualification added of it being used sometimes near the back end of a basho - not this early.
