Zentoryu 154 Posted September 14, 2008 (edited) OK, we ended up with 93 entries via the website, in addition to 9 (non-duplicate) entries via e-mail that haven't been added to the standings on the webpage yet, giving us a total of 102 entries. Makuuchi has 33 (30 via webpage plus 3 via e-mail) players. Juryo has only 20 (18+2) players. So there are 17 players missing or kosho out of 70 sekitori. My main concern with canceling or not canceling the basho involved the difficulties in trying to construct a banzuke with such a large percentage of players missing, particularly in the sekitori ranks. Not to mention having legit competitions within each division. Here's what we will do. The basho will proceed as normal. I'll cross the banzuke making bridge when I get to it. Misisko 0 Posted September 14, 2008 Do have missing players kosho automatically?
furanohana 3 Posted September 14, 2008 Due to the fact that I was asleep when the server came back to life, I couldn't send an entry in the website (and with all the mess, I didn't see the emails proposing to send them by mail). Could I get kosho status ? (the problem is that I don't remember if I didn't already get kosho in july...). If I can't get kosho, please make me intai then (I won't have the courage to try to come back up the banzuke, mostly due to lack of time to play sumo games). Zentoryu 154 Posted September 14, 2008 (edited) I haven't decided what I'm going to do about non-kosho absences yet. However, there won't be full demotions unless they are called for (ie, a player who has missed his/her second or third consecutive tournament). Those who request kosho will receive it unless they also had kosho last basho. Could I get kosho status ? (the problem is that I don't remember if I didn't already get kosho in july...). You were active last basho, so you can have kosho this basho. Edited September 14, 2008 by Zentoryu
Zenjimoto 39 Posted September 15, 2008 I think it's a bit harsh not to give an automatic kosho to players in any server-affected game, given the situation...
Zentoryu 154 Posted September 15, 2008 I didn't say I wasn't going to.
Kitakachiyama 9 Posted September 15, 2008 I didn't say I wasn't going to. Yes you did. "Those who request kosho will receive it unless they also had kosho last basho". So, what if one was kosho in Nagoya and could't enter now due to server problems?
Zentoryu 154 Posted September 15, 2008 (edited) The standings should be considered unofficial for the moment as the 9 e-mailed entries likely won't be added until the end of this week at the earliest. Also, the Fighting Spirit Prize (Kanto Sho) as listed on the webpage are is longer official. As mentioned last basho, we will be using a new formula for determining the Kanto Sho and the webpage does not currently reflect that (I'm not even sure that Bob can configure it to do so at this point). I'll be keeping track of the FSP standings on my spreadsheet and will announce the winners at the end of the basho. As for the kosho question. Everyone will be granted kosho status, except for those who are missing their third straight tournament and don't contact me indicating their desire to continue playing. Is that a challenge?!? If I can program Zenjimoto's nasty, server-hogging Nations' Prizes, I can code anything ... Warm regards, Kofuji

I didn't know if it would cause problems. If you think you can do it, I would be extremely grateful. Edited September 16, 2008 by Zentoryu

You're right, I doubt I could do it for this basho, but send me the specifications privately and I'll see what I can do. Warm regards, Bob
