Mark Buckton 1 Posted October 16, 2003 Afternoon all, A hot and sunny afternoon in northern Tokyo. I'm a long term resident of Tokyo, living not far from Sumida-ku and Ryogoku. Closest to Tamanoi stable and visit there quite a bit. Follow the fortunes of Tochiazuma as a result. Other blokes there are slipping a bit now. Originally from England but packed up there back in 96 having left the RAF, and, by way of Australia ended up here - self empolyed and with family, home, pet fish and old shopping bike etc etc. 2 old shopping bikes in fact - 1 free to good home. Have watched sumo actively for a few years now and got into it seriously so about 2 or 3 years ago. Earliest memory, being English, is seeing, as I thought at the time, some real fat blokes going at each other on late night Channel Four TV (bit of an 'alternate' station in the UK) as far back as the mid eighties I think. Real name is Mark - Adachinoryu comes from the place I live and myself being a lifelong fan of Manchester United - (the days of the Greenoffs and Remi Moses being my start point there for fans of footy) - nickname Red Devils but red dragon is close enough. Next tournament visit slated for January. ANR

The twilight years of arguably the greatest Rikishi ever Chiyonofuji the Wolf. Oh and whos this Man utd? Up the Mariners!

Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted October 16, 2003 Welcome to the jungle :-P (My network is so slow right now, I couldn't bring up the All Icons popup with the Riding An ATV icon I wanted to put here) (Sign of disapproval)
Mark Buckton 1 Posted October 17, 2003 :-/ I feel an inner urge to display an image... ;-) Yuichi-san, just checking my PC before breakfast and saw your added logo. Suddenly don't feel like breakfast anymore. For those not really into football, Arsenal are London's main team and England's second, (Behind the boys from Old Trafford - MUFC - that is) and are managed by the largest collection of wrinkles you will ever find accumulated on one face. Seriously though, to yourself and all the other posters - thanks for the messages. Hope I'll learn a fair bit here (have already) and may even contribute a thing or two? Lastly, do any of you guys outside Japan ever come over to watch the tournaments - ridiculously expensive to do so for that purpos alone I know but...... Have a good day ANR
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted October 18, 2003 Arsenal are (...) England's second(...) Lastly, do any of you guys outside Japan ever come over to watch the tournaments - ridiculously expensive to do so for that purpos alone I know but...... That remains debatable. (In a state of confusion...) Some of the members have visited Kokugikan (and possibly other ozumo venues as well) earlier and there has been some preliminary talk going on about a pilgrimage to Kokugikan possibly in 2005 but it remains to be seen. I know personally I will visit all four honbasho venues sooner or later whether it will cost me an arm and a leg or not... (No, no, no...)
Fujisan 530 Posted October 19, 2003 I think I will be happy watching it on Tv thanks,at least until I win the lottery-Or get a higher paid job than window cleaning.
