There are only four good pictures on that calender, the rest is just photoshop made filler, like all the sekitori standing on the stairs.

Don't tell me the Lego Yokozuna Pirate is no photoshop job?! (...and where is the fourth?) :-)

Actually, that Lego guy is a cowboy themed Lego that I painted as a still-life in college.

Asashoryu is the January-February page from the calendar, and I couldn't bring myself to throw it away.

A favor, please: could you let me know (by PM, so not to clutter this topic) are the images I posted on first pages visible? I cannot load public-access files on my account, which is probably due to server change, and possibly to my new location (Japan! at last). So before I start bothering my admin with long-distance mails, I would like a check. Thank you. (Sign of approval...)

Edit: three people say they are gone. That's good enough for me, I shall go forth and bother. When I get the time. ;-)

He was Kasugano for years, but I don't know if he had a different kabu immediately after his retirement prior to assuming Kasugano.

"While at primary school too, he loved sumo. The middle[row]'s tallest is Tochihikari."

You can see that he is a head taller than the other boys in his row.

thought i'll give this topic a bit of a revival, soooo .... here goes:

Some Taiho pics

DSCF7027.jpg

Note that the kanji for 打 in the caption is a more complicated version that I cannot type with the IME though both are utsu うつ with similar meaning. Overall this caption uses very complicated versions of kanji even though simpler versions exist for most. It is possible that a row of characters is missing from the bottom but I have just gone with what I can see.

Caption:

ヨイショノ 大きな打て声とともに、大本は軽々と、大鵬上に。

伊豆山腹を背に、大鵬は伸び伸びとトレーニングを竣

"Heave ho," a big striking voice Taiho lofts a big log with ease.

At the back of the Izu mountainside, Taiho is refreshed when he completes his training.

Interesting that someone wrote his name on his mawashi so he wouldn't mix it up with everyone else's...

新弟子として入った大学相撲出身の小戸(幕下五十枚目格付出し)と臼井(前相撲)の初土俵には差がある。

好成績を残して初土俵を飾った二人は両国の街を散歩しながら、健闘を誓い合った

There is a difference between Obe (Makushita 50, later Tachihikari as Doitsuyama said above) the shindeshi who entered originally from university sumo and Usui(maezumo)'s first dohyo appearances.

The two men who left their first dohyo appearances with good results promised a good fight while strolling down the road in Ryokoku.

Usui again

DSCF7067.jpg

Note below that 励む is displayed but the kanji version used above is an older more comlicated version so it doesn't look exactly the same but the meaning is the same.

Caption:

小戸、臼井につづいて晨大から入った山田(時津風)はけいこに励む

Obe, Usui continued with Yamada (Tokitsukaze beya) who entered from Shindai doing diligent keiko.

"Ten years of the dohyo, I have no regrets. From now on, I want to make truly splendid rikishis by developing them with my guidance," said Hagurohana, laughing as he touches his hand to his mageless head.
