That-Satsu-Guy 1 Posted March 28, 2008 who is this Taiho guy? :-P (First prize...) I don't know how much this topic was discussed (online/offline) , but in that article it said that Takanoumi (Mr. ten-gallon-hat from Texas) quit sumo because he had no enthusiasm "yaruki" for the sport, and that it could not be helped "shoganai." Taiho is one of the most famous yokozuna in modern history. Hakuho and many others borrow his image by using part of his shikona in their shikona. Sorry, if this is too basic, but I'm sure someone doesn't know these things.

arcus 1 Posted March 29, 2008 (edited) Arcus - awesome photos! its like looking through his family album! which brings me the question do you know Asashoryu? No, I'm not. But I met his mother Purevbadam and interview with her. Some pictures placed Asa's school wall, some pictures took from Asa's teacher. And Mrs. Purevbadam gave me few pics. Harry 67 Posted March 30, 2008 (edited) Yes, that's him. It says: Triggered by the excitement of the Heisei era Aki (autumn) basho, for the first time from the sumo world the awarding of the national honor prize. Regarding the picture it is the scene of the Japanese Sumo Association sponsor from Tokyo Ningyocho's Royal Park Hotel conducting "the national prize winner Chiyonofuji's celebration party." Mr. and Mrs. Chiyonofuji national prize winner in the middle, pro baseball's Ou Sadaharushi (shi is more formal than san) on the right and Kinugasa Sachioshi (again, shi for san) on the left. Both those baseball players are the only baseball players ever to receive the national honor prize. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sachio_Kinugasa Edited March 30, 2008 by Harry
Harry 67 Posted March 30, 2008 Yeah, it says that it's Oh on the right. This photo was taken at the Royal Park Hotel in Ningyo-cho, Tokyo in (1988?). It says Showa which would be 1989, right?

I'm sorry, Heisei is of course what I meant, 平成 but I made the error initially and copied it thereafter... Showa 1 would obviously be before the war. Thanks for the correction. aderechelsea 124 Posted March 31, 2008 the Ozeki one is at the Kokugikan outside the tea shops. I think it from this year's calendar (actually i am not sure because i don't own it ... hehe)
That-Satsu-Guy 1 Posted March 31, 2008 the Ozeki one is at the Kokugikan outside the tea shops. I think it from this year's calendar (actually i am not sure because i don't own it ... hehe) I was going to say, it's from my wall. I bought it in December for 700 yen, then in January someone gave my a second calender. I gave that one to my new neighbor. There are only four good pictures on that calender, the rest is just photoshop made filler, like all the sekitori standing on the stairs.
