Thank you again! What a pleasure to see a pic of Wakashimazu at his prime!

DSCF4358.jpg

She might be Tomoefuji's wife, but above all, she was a journalist for Sumou or Oozumou magazine during 80ies and early 90ies.

Apparently, he was a gaijin from Texas and his shikona was Takanoumi.

Sorry, Nishinoshima, I didn't see your response... (Blushing...)

who is this Taiho guy?

(Blushing...) (In a state of confusion...)

That "Taiho" is in fact "Taiho-beya"... so it's a recruit of him. It's an American (from Texas) with the shikona Takanoumi - that "taka" chosen in honor of foreign pioneer Takamiyama. I can't tell why that "umi", because you snipped the article right there. (Neener, neener...) I guess his career was short because he isn't on the Hatsu 1988 banzuke.

From the article it says he is someone called Tengalon (?) Hart with a shikona of Takanoumi

Ten-Gallon Hat?

While I'm at it, a correction. The text on the pic says "Kototenzan haigyo, entering Japan Pro Wrestling".

Hmm, my Japanese really isn't good, but it definitely has to do with Kitanoumi. The article seems to say that he was on the banzuke for Jonokuchi but never fought, right? Taiho seems to say that raising foreign is difficult... no guarantees here for my translation.

This thread has become completely unwieldy which is a shame as there are some great pictures in it. There is no way to search images though so perhaps Adere you could set up new threads for all the rikishi you are doing. A Chiyonofuji image thread, a Taiho one etc etc. That way we could all find pics easily. I think I'll set up a new photobucket account for this kind of thing where I can keep the photo links permanently.

There is another possibility - a separate index thread, containing links to posts that feature certain rikishi. And there was some talk of Forum gallery. @Exil: Nudge, nudge, wink, wink?
