aderechelsea 124 Posted March 19, 2008 seeing as how you are in Ireland you should know that I'm hot for Kris Meeke & Gareth MacHale, Paul Nagel Have no idea who those people are and haven't set foot on that rain-soaked island in two years so dunno why you think I am there. (You are going off-topic...) she was quoting Bealzbob ... (In a state of confusion...) a bit self-centered again ? :-)
sekihiryu 51 Posted March 23, 2008 and not so many American women watching rally in Japan.. not so many American woman in America watch! in fact not so many Americans period, watch it all... or do they? has there ever been a driver from the US? I am sure if they put a stage on an oval track then it would hot stuff (Clapping wildly...) Though some of the best gravel road action in television history did come from the USA: The Dukes of Hazzard! Interestingly there is another female sumo loving rallying fan on this forum : chiisaiyama from Sweden. She's into the Dakar. I used to be really into rallying back in the day when names like Sainz, Delecour, Vatanen, Auriol, Kankkunen, McRae, Biasion and Eriksson were as common as Prost, Piquet, lauda and Senna. Havent really watched it much in a while. Like the dakar (when it runs) though. I taught a student a while back he was the biggest rally nut ever, He had a racing impreza, roll cage, the works, he used to race ( though I believe he was not very good!) He made it street legal and drove it around town. He always wore Subaru team clothing and travelled around the world to watch rallying. He once gave me some really high quailty Subaru stickers -they must have cost a fortune. I put them on my folders, DVD cases - in fact the DVD case with all my sons favourite DVD's are in have a sticker of Makinen's car with #8 on the door. My son knows that case as "Subaru 8"
Harry 67 Posted March 23, 2008 All rally cars have to be street legal! Otherwise they can't do the non-competitive stages which take you from one super stage (Competitive, closed road) to another. The funniest moments have been times when drivers have lost the race because they didn't have correct change for the toll booths! No lie... Rally used to be on TV here in Canada quite a bit but it fell out of favor a few years ago and now it is difficult to watch, as difficult as sumo or maybe worse if you can believe it! It used to be on mainstream sports channels but now they'd rather show poker (now there's a sport (Clapping wildly...) ). I used to be a big fan and I used to do amateur rally driving and navigating in Ontario. Let me tell you, doing one 8 hour all night snow rally in Minden or Bancroft Ontario and you will never be afraid to drive in snow again! Others at work call in "can't come in, too much snow" all the time when I drive my car in (less than 5" of ground clearance) on snow tires and have a blast, trying to find the most unknown backroads so no regular drivers will slow me down. Once you've done it for real, even at more reasonable speeds (I was driving as fast as I could but I'm sure it was pitiful) it changes how you watch it on TV. Probably means I should try some amasumo too, just for fun.

My son knows that case as "Subaru 8" The first American who is going to make it into World Rally will be Travis Pastrana. He's the champ in the US Rally series. He did two WRC rallies last year and fared very well in Mexico I believe. For the life of me I can't remember how he did in Great Britain. My brain is currently on Sumo mode! That and I should be sleeping at 4am! Anyway Petter Solberg supports him and he says he's got great talent! I'm looking forward to him breaking through the World Championship! That might bring in some American fans! I've heard they do show WRC on "The Speed Channel" but my mom couldn't seem to find that on her cable so I just send her DVDs. My mother has always loved Sumo and now she loves Rally too. I just push her of course... she likes NASCAR too though! YES! some of the best guys.. Sainz, Delecour, Vatanen, Auriol, Kankkunen, & McRae!! What a terrible tragedy his helicopter accident was last year! As for your ex-student, I'm not quite that bad! I would drive a replica Impreza if it was practical but seeing as my friend's got one that you have to fill with gas at every corner... and not big enough to tote Sumo Rikishi in.. My Legacy is big enough to comfortably carry three as long as one in the back doesn't have too long of legs.. The Legacy unlike the Impreza is a Rally/Sumo mobile! I'd love to add a photo.. but I'm so technically challenged on this forum that I can't figure out how to do it...
Bealzbob 0 Posted March 25, 2008 BTW seeing as how you are in Ireland you should know that I'm hot for Kris Meeke & Gareth MacHale, Paul Nagel & Gareth's dad is pretty cool too. All of them have signed my car & Gareth's mechanics drove it around drunk... seems they took my keys off the bar and wanted to take a Subaru for a spin to compare it to the Focus. In my panic I jumped in the back seat as they took off, then remembered the new rules in Japan where you can lose your license for riding with someone who is drunk! Anyway we made it back safe with a one inch close call with a taxi coming head on to us.. back in front of the Irish Pub! The McHale's are a legendary rallying family in Ireland. Gareth's Dad is Austin IIRC. I like that story of them (or their crew) drunkenly 'borrowing' a rival car to compare the handling (Shaking head...) Or else it was just pure drunken mischief :-) where you can lose your license for riding with someone who is drunk At the risk of going off topic in an already off-topic topic, how on earth can they prove that you knew the driver was drunk at the time and that you knowingly got into a car with a drunk driver ???? Or does that matter ??? Surely if you're not driving the car then you've no responsibility for the car ??? That sounds crazy to me. FWIW, in my opinion, now that Gronholm has retired, unfortunately, I can't see anyone challenging Loeb for the WRC title for the foreseeable future. So he may end up winning the next 5 or 6 titles in a row if he wants to !!
