Kintamayama 44,400 Posted February 6, 2008 (edited) Hakuhou took part in the rikishi physical check-ups, giving blood and getting weighed and heighted. He is quickly cementing his status as the "model" yokozuna. Hearing that quite a few sekitori avoided the checkups, he said: "I don't get the chance to go to the hospital a lot.." The test results will be known on the 8th, and of course, Asa who is back in Mongolia was not around. Hakuhou was also planning to go to Mongolia for the local holidays, but decided against it in the end, since there is a tournament on the 9th. "The Fukushi-Sumo tournament on the 9th is an important Kyokai function, so if the weather turns nasty and I couldn't return, it would be very bad. And of course, these check ups are important as well..", said the good Yokozuna. Hakuhou intends to start training on the 8th, the day Asashouryuu is slated to return. aderechelsea 124 Posted February 6, 2008 i don't know why i like our two Yokozuna the same. I usually tend to pick the "bad guy" as my favorite but in this case i cannot choose sides .... the Kyokai and the Yokozunas have to try harder apparently ... :-)
Jakusotsu 5,817 Posted February 7, 2008 i don't know why i like our two Yokozuna the same. I usually tend to pick the "bad guy" as my favorite but in this case i cannot choose sides .... I think it's quite likely that Asashoryu will eventually turn out to be the "more remembered" while Hakuho will be the "more successful", just like Akebono and Musashimaru. Jakusotsu 5,817 Posted February 7, 2008 You misunderstood. I meant Hakuho turning out to be more successful than Asashoryu, just like Musashimaru turned out to be more successful than the more prominent Akebono.

Kaikitsune Makoto 203 Posted February 8, 2008 Hakuho has perfected that yokozuna arrogance stance and gestures after his wins. His comments too and everything. As if he has studied how to move, how to do gestures, how to walk as a yokozuna. That ultimate smug face and all :-P Very honed yokozuna aura.

Kintamayama 44,400 Posted February 8, 2008 (edited) The model Yokozuna screwed up a bit today. During keiko, Ryuuou was seen wheelbarrowing Jonidan Ounofuji around the keiko-ba. Ounofuji was unable to complete a whole circle, so Hakuhou was egging him on. "One more time, one more time..", he was heard shouting. It took a vocal intervention from his mentor Kumagatani for this to stop. "That's enough, cut it out!", shouted Kumagatani. These days when sumo news is focusing on the death of the deshi.." I may have gotten carried away in the heat of the moment..", explained Hakuhou, although he pulled a dissatisfied face when asked to stop. "One more time, one more time.. I'm the 'good' Yokozuna". Wheel barrow time.: Edit: I see Harry and I posted this together.. Edited February 8, 2008 by Kintamayama
Kotoku 0 Posted February 9, 2008 Hakuho is a salaryman yokozuna. He does what he is told by his lessers. Asashoryu is an historical yokozuna, even if he quits today, or never wins again. A yokozuna is a god. As such, what would be a screwup for mere mortals is all in a day's work for the top banana on the ladder. Shinto... ya gotta love it. Nah, I'm sure Kotoku wouldn't want to be told what to do by those who pay him a salary. Fight The Man! (Unless proofreading SW is an unpaid gig, which would explain the results, too...) Kotoku 0 Posted February 11, 2008 (edited) Hey, I was making a comment on the difference between the two yokozuna, and as usual you had to make a snide comment. "Wouldn't your time be better spent proof-reading Sumo World?" I have no idea why you have to do that. I would write you offline, but you seem to have a blocked address. Frankly speaking, I'm tired of your put downs. I enjoy sumo, like to read this place and make the occasional comment. Leave it be, or let's meet sometime and discuss this face to face, and not bother the folks here who just want to shoot the breeze about sumo, like myself. I am definitely up for that. Kintamayama 44,400 Posted February 27, 2008 Hakuhou went to visit the new Osaka Governor, Mr. Hashimoto. The Yokozuna was very well-behaved, and even allowed the Governor to push him. Hakuhou returned the Governor's shield from last year. The Guv asked him many questions about the pressure etc.,, and asked if he could try and push him. Hakuhou agreed, kimono and all, and lent his chest. Asked later about his impression of the new governor, Hakuhou answered. "Just like on TV, he's a real cheerful chap!!", he said

Jonosuke 28 Posted March 2, 2008 Just a little bit about the new Osaka Governeor Hashimoto. Unlike the previous Ms Ota, he is no politician (at least not yet) and quite a be of novice as far as being one. Hashimoto is a former high school rugby player (at a well known elite Kitano High in Osaka) and college (at Waseda) and a lawyer. He was a "Telento" and he was definitely the most well known candidate in the recent election. Many of his photo ops like this one with Hakuho, he can exploit it to the max. So this one was more like staged for the governor and the yokozuna was relegated to a side player. I thinkg it could have been wilder had it been Asashoryu. Harry 67 Posted March 2, 2008 Yeah, Asa might have given him a couple of harites... that would have been a nice photo op :-)
Harry 67 Posted March 3, 2008 (edited) Hakuhou's spirited yell! Involuntary? Tsuriotoshi as well. http://sports.yahoo.co.jp/hl?c=sumo&a=...0000044-spn-spo In Ozumo Haru Basho, Yokozuna Hakuhou aims for the 6th 4th-successive championship in history, doing a 2nd day of degeiko in Osaka prefecture Saikai City's Dewanoumi beya. Managed 3 successive defeats taken by Futenou, the final match by tsuriotoshi (yikes!), voice raised and so on, spirited enough. "Attack was good, defense was good. That was a long grand sumo session." he said with a satisfied expression. Foster parent Kumagatani oyakata (former maegashira Chikubayama) was also there and had comments about not running out of breath and about the tsuriotoshi not forgetting to add "if that was so I can't say." Hakuhou went for degeiko at Dewanoumi. After beating Futenou three straight times, he proceeded to tsuriotoshi him, letting out a yelp in the process. "My offense was good, my defense was good, and I had some long bouts as well..", he said, happy with himself. "He's looking good, isn't he? He wasn't even out of breath..", said Kumagatani the mentor. As for the tsuriotoshi "If it didn't happen, I would really have no criticism at all", he criticized.
