Zeokage 0 Posted January 29, 2008 I know it's a big task setting it up every basho, but has there been any word on whether the results have been worked out and uploaded anywhere? While keeping up with the top of the standings has been interesting to read, I haven't been able to keep up with my personal standings since Natsu 2007. Randomitsuki 2,681 Posted January 29, 2008 I know it's a big task setting it up every basho, but has there been any word on whether the results have been worked out and uploaded anywhere? While keeping up with the top of the standings has been interesting to read, I haven't been able to keep up with my personal standings since Natsu 2007. Yes, everything has been recorded faithfully. I would be happy more than anybody else if the Superbanzuke data were published some day. After all, it is me who spent about a dozen of hours compiling those stats for no apparent reason... Alas, since I don't have webspace, I have to rely on the cooperation of other sumo fans who are willing to put that stuff online. In the past Zenjimoto has done these things, and after discontinuing that particular service, I searched (and hopefully found) someone who displayed his willingness to host the data. I'd love to get the Superbanzuke updated as soon as possible. However, I am in no position to push those friendly people who "need to be pushed" to finally get that stuff online. Keep your fingers crossed while I try to keep my motivation alive. (Whatever above, it is funny...)
Gusoyama 70 Posted January 29, 2008 (edited) Super Banzuke The last "current" one works, kind of. Natsu 2007 I'm slowly fixing links, etc. There is very little working right now. If you want to send me any new stuff, Randomitsuki, go ahead, and I'll try to get the information on the server. Edited for (Whatever above, it is funny...) Kintamayama 42,781 Posted January 29, 2008 If you want to send me any new stuff, Randomitsuki, go ahead, and I'll try to get it up. You can't write a sentence like that not expecting me to answer with: "Blue pill?" I apologize in advance.
Zeokage 0 Posted January 29, 2008 Thanks for the reply Randomitsuki, it's great to know that the information is somewhere and that the motivation is still there. (Whatever above, it is funny...)
Zenjimoto 39 Posted January 29, 2008 You can also still send stuff to me... and I promise this time I'll actually upload it (Whatever above, it is funny...)
Randomitsuki 2,681 Posted January 29, 2008 Oh, what to say... First of all, thanks to Zeokage for showing that there is still some interest in the Superbanzuke. Thanks also to Kofuji, Gusoyama, Fukurou, Andoreasu, and Zenjimoto for offering to get a permanent, interim, or even returning home for the site. I have reliably compiling the data and the files. I intend to continue to do this, and I will even try to refresh general interest in sumo gaming by making games more visible, telling people about the Superbanzuke, kindly bugging game masters to get their banzuke done in time etc. etc. That's exactly the strategy that Zenjimoto followed a couple of years ago. What I need for that is a reliable service. I really really do not want to appear picky, but the reliability issue has left much to be desired when it came to the Superbanzuke, so much so that I value some kind of independence from others more than anything else right now. To make a long story short: the ideal solution would be a permanent home for the Superbanzuke, and a permission/password from the Webmaster that allows me to upload the files by myself. From what I've heard through Asashosakari (who is trying for some time to get the Seki-Toto banzukes online), Kofuji was and is the first person to offer this kind of independence (as he does for the Juryo Game AFAIK). That's why he is the preferred host for me. To get things started, Kofuji already received all Nagoya- and Aki-related Superbanzuke files some two months ago, but unfortunately (and ironically) nothing happened since then, and I must admit that currently I'm a little tired of asking again. I hope we will resume talks again soon (as I said I can't really push people whom I depend on), and finally find a solution. In the meantime, we will look for an interim home. As Gusoyama was the first person to offer his help today, I'll send him the files tomorrow, and from there on we will see how things unfold. Again, sorry for making things so complicated. Zeokage 0 Posted January 30, 2008 How much space per basho does the SB take up? I guess the same could be asked for general game space...
Randomitsuki 2,681 Posted January 30, 2008 How much space per basho does the SB take up? I guess the same could be asked for general game space... Less than 1 MB per basho. About 300 KB for the current Superbanzuke, about the same for the Masters Results, plus new player photos (if there are any). Add to that the standings in the current World Championship (about 600 KB), but in contrast to the aforementioned pages these are replaced throughout the year. Hidariashiyama 0 Posted January 30, 2008 I can't imagine anyone on this baord not wanting to have the SB updated. It's good to see the banzuke for each individual game, but I want to see how I am doing compared to everyone else for all of the games. I would be pretty happy just to make it onto the SB. Gusoyama 70 Posted January 30, 2008 I'm definitely not worried about space. I've got 293 GB of storage available, and almost 6 TB of bandwidth available to me each month.
Zeokage 0 Posted January 30, 2008 So it's less about the size of files in the databases etc, but more with the amount of bandwidth needed to keep it visable 24/7. How do you get such bandwidth?

I've been with the same hosting company for several years, and they just keep upping my disk space and bandwidth.
Randomitsuki 2,681 Posted January 31, 2008 (edited) And a huge thank you to Gusoyama (On the banzuke...) (Showing respect...) He is in the process of uploading the missing files one by one. Since many links in the HTML document must be replaced, the pages do not look exactly the way you are used to (many photos, graphics, and flags are missing), but it is a great start! What is up now? 1) The missing Superbanzuke from Nagoya, Aki, and Kyushu are available (the Hatsu one, of course, is not there because not all Hatsu banzuke are out AFAIK). 2) The missing Masters Series results from Nagoya and Kyushu are available as well (the Aki Masters are still having a dead link). The Hatsu Masters aren't computed yet because the GISP results are still missing. 3) The Standings of the World Championship (post-Aki) are up as well. The Final Standings of the World Championship 2007 (post-Kyushu) are on my computer, but the transfer from Excel spreadsheets into HTML is a little more tricky and time-consuming. Therefore I haven't prepared the final HTML files yet, but with seeing some results online, I will be motivated to complete this task soon. Thank you for your patience. Edit: Here is the link! Frinkanohana 13 Posted January 31, 2008 A big thank you to Randomitsuki and Gusoyama for compiling respectively hosting the Super Banzuke, the Masters and the World Championship. (On the banzuke...) I'm disappointed that I dropped out of sanyaku :-( I promise that I will gambarize (Showing respect...) and return to sanyaku (On the banzuke...)
Sakana 46 Posted January 31, 2008 Really, thank you Gusoyama, Randomitsuki (On the banzuke...) So... let see this update (Showing respect...)
Fujisan 523 Posted February 2, 2008 Thank you guys! (Whistling...) I see that as of Kyushu I am still climbing to M4 but I fear I may have dropped a few places after Hatsu's pitiful performance in Gisp and Rotosumo among others....

I imagine it's nice to see all your hard work finally coming to fruition (Showing respect...) I noticed that the Nagoya Masters page is missing the photo of one of the game winners. IIRC, an image to use was sent at the time - do you guys still have it available for when you get around to fixing links, or would you like a resend?

IIRC, an image to use was sent at the time - do you guys still have it available for when you get around to fixing links, or would you like a resend? Every player photo that was ever sent to me is still on my computer. The links will be fixed some time (another reason why I'd love to do the uploads by myself, I could easily change little stuff all the time).
Randomitsuki 2,681 Posted February 3, 2008 (edited) The Hatsu Superbanzuke is now online. Here are the three news items related to the current issue: 1) Doitsuyama has regained the Yokozuna East spot from Norizo. ;-) 2) Fujisan has his Sanyaku debut. I distinctly remember him saying that one day he wanted to see his mug on the Superbanzuke page. There you go, Fujisan! (Laughing...) 3) The number of players who made it to Makuuchi of the Superbanzuke has now reached 100. We've been waiting for this moment for several months now. And the lucky #100 is - Meyeryu!!! Congratulations (On the banzuke...) ! Edited February 3, 2008 by Randomitsuki
Ganzohnesushi 449 Posted February 4, 2008 Wow! Finally the SB for the last few Basho's is published. Thanks a ton, Randomitsuki, for all your efforts and the many hours you spent on this. Ganzohnesushi

I distinctly remember him saying that one day he wanted to see his mug on the Superbanzuke page. There you go, Fujisan! (In a state of confusion...) Thank you (Showing respect...) That really does mean an awful lot to me (Pulling hair...) Not to put too much of a dampener on it but I actually meant Haru's Superbanzuke when I said I expect a bit of a drop but even that cant spoil this moment. :-O (Clapping wildly...) Fukurou 534 Posted February 4, 2008 The Hatsu Superbanzuke is now online. Out of curiousity, are the GISP results for Hatsu factored into this? I ask because they still aren't up on the GISP site.
Doitsuyama 1,161 Posted February 5, 2008 The Hatsu Superbanzuke is now online. Out of curiousity, are the GISP results for Hatsu factored into this? I ask because they still aren't up on the GISP site. You are right that curiously they aren't up yet. But the weird thing about your question is, what does that have to do with the Hatsu Superbanzuke? The Superbanzuke collects banzuke, not results from games.
