kaiguma 0 Posted June 26, 2009 Results from the drug tests numbers 2 and 3 are in- everyone is clean, all 214 testies. I think there is a misspelling there, and a math error. Should read: 428 testes.
Kintamayama 44,468 Posted July 19, 2009 The second group that were tested on June 19th (7 heya and 110 rikishi) were all clean, it has been announced today.
Asashosakari 18,864 Posted August 26, 2009 And on with batch #5 today, this time featuring 104 members of Minato, Sakaigawa, Naruto, Tatsunami, Magaki and Tamanoi. 10 people were excused, mostly due to being down with the flu.
Barang 0 Posted August 27, 2009 10 people were excused, mostly due to being down with the flu. So about 90% of sumotoris are clean in 5th batch. Those ten fine ones should have been executed (ok just intai, no need for their heads) instead of excused.

Those ten fine ones should have been executed (ok just intai, no need for their heads) instead of excused. None of the 10 were down with the flu, say the papers-they were either injured or sick. On the contrary- all those that had the flu were tested (Iwakiyama , and 4 others), it is being stressed. The Kyokai intends to test all heyas by the end of the year. FWIW, the article I based my post on was from one of the general-interest papers (Yomiuri, I think it was Sankei)...it's possible the writer simply assumed that those with the flu were also excluded. Personally, I'm happy that's not the case. Nevertheless, Barang's post gets a big ol' WTF? from me. Edit: And just to contradict everything yet again - Sponichi says that the 10 absences did include flu cases, namely 3 newly discovered ones from Minato-beya and 4 already-known ones from Sakaigawa-beya. I'm not sure if it's me or Moti who is reading the corresponding Nikkan article wrong, but I'm reading it as the 4 Sakaigawa guys being included among the absences, not among the tested wrestlers. Oh, whatever. Edited August 27, 2009 by Asashosakari
Kintamayama 44,468 Posted September 7, 2009 (edited) Six more heya examined today- 96 people. Takanohana, Michinoku, Kasugano, Mihogaseki, Takashima, and Kagamiyama beyas. 3 rikishi missed the tests due to illness. Additionally, it was revealed that the people who underwent the last tests a week or so ago were all found to be "clean" . So far- 627 people from 34 heyas have been tested, all of them testing negative. Edited September 7, 2009 by Kintamayama
Kozaru 0 Posted September 7, 2009 So far- 627 people from 34 heyas have been tested, all of them testing negative. Maybe I'm being naive, but this is exactly what I'd expect. The level of stupidity required for a rikishi to dope at this point would be difficult to describe with words.

Asameshimae 220 Posted October 1, 2009 Six more heya examined today- 96 people. Takanohana, Michinoku, Kasugano, Mihogaseki, Takashima, and Kagamiyama beyas. All tested negative, it was announced today. Hey, I don't keep up with the details of this as much as I did when the Wakanoho news broke. Can I ask: Are they still testing only for recreational drugs (or just pot?) or are they now testing for steroids etc. as well?
ryafuji 807 Posted October 3, 2009 Recreational only, I believe. Talk about a missed opportunity...
Asashosakari 18,864 Posted October 7, 2009 And round number 7...today's 110 test subjects (1 excused) are hailing from Hakkaku, Chiganoura, Takadagawa, Kiriyama and Matsugane. That brings the number of tested stables to 39, with the remaining 13 to be tested in two further batches according to the Kyokai medical office's Dr. Yoshida. Asashosakari 18,864 Posted October 15, 2009 Batch number 8 today including Otake, Kise, Isenoumi, Izutsu, Minezaki, Onoe and Oitekaze stables...104 people tested, two absences.
Asashosakari 18,864 Posted October 17, 2009 And we're (almost) done here as the 9th and final batch were tested on Friday, comprising rikishi and personnel from Kitanoumi, Nishonoseki, Shibatayama, Nakamura, Shikihide and Tomozuna stables, plus 7 more who had previously been excused, 97 in total this time and 938 overall. 12 others who have yet to undergo the procedure will reportedly be tested before the end of the year. Mitsuru Yaku was present for this round of tests, two other non-Kyokai members (names not given) of the Whateveritscallednow committee for Thursday's. Meanwhile, batch #7 have all checked out as negative. The results from the final two groups are expected to arrive in time for Kyushu basho. Asked about future tests, committee chairman Isenoumi either indicated general spot checks (according to Sports Hochi) or regular tests for makuuchi and juryo rikishi (according to Daily Sports). Perhaps a combination of both, I dunno...either way, nothing appears to be set in stone yet, though the continuation of testing for illicit drugs in some form seems to be a virtual certainty. Kintamayama 44,468 Posted November 22, 2009 (edited) It is now official-all 52 heyas have been checked and no one is doing it. "We certainly are relieved, but we've only just begun (Karen?) We'll be testing next year as well!", said Isenoumi in charge person of all things dopey. The special committee will be meeting before the end of the year to go over the special plans for next year and probably have a special drinkie-poo as well. Kintamayama 44,468 Posted December 21, 2009 The last 7 Kyokai people who for various reasons were not tested during the tests, were tested today. "That's it, now everyone has been tested", attested Musashigawa rijicho.
