WAKATAKE 2,648 Posted November 22, 2020 Hozan's November 2020 record seems to be glitched. The vertical entries to show all seven bouts and results but the horizontal hoshitori only shows him as 3-3 with no day 14 or day 15 results (last match was on day 14) http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Rikishi_basho.aspx?r=12611&b=202011

It's the long-standing problem where no record with 0 wins or 0 losses in a recent tournament can be queried for (presumably the fields are null/empty, not 0), until Doitsuyama fixes those results manually.
Asashosakari 19,104 Posted November 23, 2020 (edited) Both Takakeisho and Terunofuji are currently marked as D = yusho-doten, with only Terunofuji properly given a jun-yusho designation in his profile while Takakeisho's is blank altogether (neither yusho nor jun-yusho), which has led to this confusing display on the yusho page: Edit: And the Day 15 results currently have the makuuchi session break in a very strange position, after the first match. yorikiried by fate 2,010 Posted November 29, 2020 I have come across Kotozakura's intai basho in VII.74. He is still listed, but didn't compete. In other such cases the result seems to be given as 0-0-0, but he gets only 0-0. For my research this doesn't matter much, EXCEPT that Kotozakura's result doesn't seem to be searchable by query. So if I look for Makuuchi guys that had 0 wins and 0 losses in the timeframe of interest, he won't turn up. The same is true, if I only search for 0 wins. This looks like a glitch. I would like to know if there are other such cases, that I cannot find by query. Help?
Asashosakari 19,104 Posted November 29, 2020 (edited) I don't think I've ever seen a pre-basho intai listed as 0-0-0... Anyway, it doesn't seem to be consistently handled. The banzuke pages and the rikishi profiles will show "0-0" by default, but that can be either actual zeros or simply empty fields (see above discussion). As far as I can tell, the great majority of pre-basho retirements are listed with empty records, not zeros. You can see those e.g. here atop the blocks of Bg 0-0 entries for every basho (for example Yoshimura for 2004.09, Nakabuchi 2004.11, Kotoryu 2005.05, etc)*. If you scroll back through the same query, you can spot some others mingling among actual zero-win records, for instance Kizakiumi here in 2020.09. IMHO, empty fields is the correct way to handle that, since these rikishi were literally no longer on active status for those respective tournaments and just had a banzuke ranking for clerical reasons. * Before somebody pulls me up on it, yes, I do realize why two of those three are listed that way, and that "retirement" is a bit of an unfortunate choice of words. yorikiried by fate 2,010 Posted November 29, 2020 1. I mistyped. I meant 0-0-15. 2. I apologize for not seeing the comments right above. 3. I see that automation/query will send me nowhere in this case. Thanks.

There is no stable page. There's only kabu, which is linked (if applicable).

The website already knows which stable each wrestlers is in as their stable is listed. All I'm asking for is that a page is created for each stable so we can see where each person belongs and who else is in their stable. If you take some of the replies here at face value, you would think I am talking Chinese and that nobody here has any idea what I'm talking about. If you start considering the events of the last week on this sub involving 2 other users in this thread, it seems like there's a little more to it. In light of the tr****ng happening on other threads I really don't want to endorse the idea, BUT For those of us who run a lot of queries just looking for who's in a particular stable, as well as someone with a strong interest in kabu, it might be a cool idea to have the wrestler's heya link to one of three things. I've often wished I could click this as a shortcut to other types of information I frequently search. Using Hakuho as an example: 1) "Miyagino" on Hakuho's page links to a query of all Miyagino rikishi all time 2) "Miyagino" on Hakuho's page links to a query of Miyagino rikishi results during the period of Hakuho's active status (thereby eliminating confusion from - for example - unconnected historic heya which used the same name) 3) "Miyagino" on Hakuho's page links to the Miyagino kabu history Any of these would be super awesome for the user experience, although I appreciate it would be a bit of work 3 hours ago, Akinomaki said: of which internet site? :D

Keep it simple. The others are a variety of specialty searches which are available by other means. Even the one I suggest is easily available on other query forms. No real need for these unless Doits happens to find time to be bored.
Kotomaru 32 Posted November 30, 2020 (edited) Oyama is still listed at Azumazeki on the Kabu list, rather than Hakkaku. It's been a while now, so thought I'd mention it, lest he gets overlooked next update. Edited November 30, 2020 by Kotomaru
Jejima 1,363 Posted December 1, 2020 There seems to be a glitch with Sumo reference here --> http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Rikishi.aspx?r=8900 For his day 12 loss to Chiyootori, Akiseyama has a dash (same as for when a Makushita rikishi does not fight that day) instead of a kuroiboshi (black circle). Chiyootori also has the dash instead of a white circle shiroiboshi here --> http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Rikishi.aspx?r=6928

I was trying to add some meat to the other character's idea. But I appreciate given the other things that can be done to enhance the DB, it is a long shot. Certainly it would be useful to have a really good overview of "who's in the heya" - not just the rikishi either. Much of that of that information is there, but separately. I know some other sites cover this, but given how all-encompassing the DB is, it would be useful to beef that up as well.

I don't mean to diss the db - it is indeed a indispensable resource for the online sumo community. But sometimes, it can be supremely infuriating to attempt - and fail - to get information out of it. It is a wonderful repository, which is what it was designed for, but it's a bit lacking when it comes to assisting in drawing conclusions. sahaven111 174 Posted December 1, 2020 I noticed that there is a lack of pictures in some rikishi's info in even in the top division like tobizaru, and there is an old banzuke with a british rikishi and if you highlight foreigners he does not get a color. so you should fix that and bring back pictures. The SumoDB is not a commercial site. Nobody pays for this valuable information, and it is maintained for many years by a devoted sumo fan at zero personal benefit. Against this background, I find it somewhat irritating if people demand that this person should do this or that. As for the photos: these were all personally taken by another incredibly dedicated sumo fan who unfortunately doesn‘t provide this service any longer. And unless Doitsuyama doesn‘t want to run into copyright issues by using photos from existing Websites, no easy solution is at hand.
